Uhhh. No. I ran the numbers. In real terms, things are less expensive than when I was that age. Apparently you don’t remember the 16% interest rates (more if you were a new buyer) on home loans.

So, bullshite.

Doesn't surprise me. Houses are expensive.

Only if you think this is the first home you buy...

18-26/27 is college plus immediate grad school depending on field. Or college plus immediate med school. Tuition ain’t cheap. If you can save whatever money you can by staying with fam, it’s just smart.

I’m staying with family until I get my PT degree completed because it’s a full time job of classes alone, not factoring in when clinical shift and I’m working 36-40+ hours/week for no pay.

In DFW Metro, that's the only type of house they are building.

I think I'll take the professional's word for it, but thanks for "running the numbers"

I'm confident, most are busily working on solutions to problems left them by Baby Boomers.

There are plenty of people from my hometown who never went to college and still live at home despite good blue collar jobs. It extends far beyond the millennial barista meme.

3-4 of my best friends from home have been working full time from 18 until now (23) in blue-collar positions and live at home with their parents. All of them have $100k plus in the bank. Wish I had considered it.

Another generation that lived at home for a long period of time was the greatest generation. Shitty economies will do that. From 07-16 millenials got fricked. Out of college with huge debt and companies holding their purses tightly. It's finally been growing the past 2 years.

You didn’t have to finance nearly as much

Real wages were higher and home prices were much lower

Well I'll raise my hand as guilty.

23 years old, recent college grad starting a new job and just moved back in with the parents.

They offered, so I figured may as well move back and pay off my student debt within a year to better set me up for the rest of my life.
Plan on moving out before I'm 25 years old. I'm not proud of the situation, but I figured it was a smart move financially.

And in the two years you were saving for a down payment you got 16% on a CD to mitigate those interest rates

Houses in my area are 1/3 that size and start over $400k.

The whole country isn't small town Alabama.

Then move to where you can afford. The point is you don’t start out in life with the big house in the nice sub-Division. You live where you can afford to live, save money and then you move to the nice neighborhood with the big house.

There's nothing wrong with choosing to live with your parents and skipping the cheap home in the sticks.

One's father owns a local HVAC company, so he works under him and lives in the basement.
One's father owns a landscaping business, he is second in the company now and making great money.
The other works construction and does very well.

No bills and good money... Why wouldn't they do that if their parents are ok with it? lol

For thousands of years you have had multiple generations of families living together. Why in the US today is it so important for people to move out into separate homes?
