Thanks for stating the obvious, it seems like only half on this board even know the true history of the Civil War.
I doubt any of you liberals will watch this short video.

Without it they wouldn't have had such an outlet for their rage.
To them..it truly is a symbol of hate, their own.

I find it mildly humorous that a Canadian (ETA: with an English degree from a Canadian university) is trying to school us on American History. I'll go point by point with him.
1. "The Civil War was an American Holocaust that should never be forgotten because a lot of people died"
Why leave up a flag just because a lot of people died fighting for what it represents? Does that make the cause admirable? Rebelling from your country and fighting a war over your ability to keep other human beings in chains and working for you isn't admirable - it's deplorable. If you want to keep it from never being forgotten - put it in a museum, you don't wave it proudly like it still represents your ideals and pride. Stupid.
2. "Civil War was not about slavery"
Know how I know this dude doesn't know anything about American History? This is the dumb shite I hear 16 year olds saying while they wear their confederate flag belt buckle and spit their dip. Without the argument about slavery, there is no Civil War. Go read the book Apostles of Disunion by Chales Dew, and if you don't like Charles Dew, go read the primary sources he cites. It outlines the arguments used by the Southern commissioners during their push to convince other states to secede from the Union - ironically enough, started by South Carolina. Almost every single one of them pointed to the ability to keep slavery as a primary reason for secession.
3. "Lincoln was a racist"
Who gives a shite if Lincoln was racist? Why is that an argument to keep the Confederate flag waving? What does that have to do with literally anything in this argument?
4. "We don't negotiate with terrorists" (referencing this clown who shot the 9 people in Charleston)
Another irrelevant argument that doesn't have anything to do with whether or not the Confederate flag should be displayed on public buildings.
5. "America was not built on slavery."
To pretend that slavery wasn't a huge freaking part of the economy and growth of America from colonialism through the Emancipation Proclamation is intellectually dishonest or at the very least disingenuous.

When Obama dies and history tells the tale, he'll be just as vilified as slave owners.

You're right.
The stars and bars wasn't even on the radar until Brown v. Board of Education in 1954 when it became a symbol of what it is now. That's the history of it, not some glamorized bullshite put out by the KKK.

Because it was the backbone for the economy in the south. And black slave masters even supported the confederacy to protect their property and fortune.

The civil war wasn't only about slavery. People try to equate the fact that there were other contributors to that not being a major one.

I'm a southern white and don't really care if the flag goes away. Is it ignorance that it is such a hated symbol? Yes. Both on the retard racist white side and the ignorant protesting black side.
I'm sick of the pissing and moaning over all of this bullshite insignificant garbage.

We're still trying to keep yankees out.
Please take y'all's vegetarianism and atheism and smokepotism someplace else please? We've been happy for like 300 years.

The flag is helpful, like neck tattoos or saggy pants, at helping me spot the folks I do not want to be around.

So, you're criticizing this guys knowledge of the Civil War while simultaneously displaying that your own knowledge is severely lacking. Nice.

It's not the stars and bars, that's a different flag.

Guess you want the Republic of Texas to remove their flag for kicking out all the Mexicans?

I'm not sure if I'm a liberal, and I'm not going to go all out on one side of this symbol debate, but that was the stupidest shite I have ever seen. Those idiotic reasons only make me want to side with his opposition

How flying flags at public buildings that are or based on what former rebels flew during a rebellion is "acceptable" is beyond me. If there had been a communist rebellion war in California in the 60s, no way would if be acceptable to fly their colors
That is before you start diving with the obvious moral issues of that flag.
ETA: If you want to demonstrate your southern pride, put a duck dynasty sticker on your truck

I'll agree with you some what but they weren't black, they were Chinese and they built the railroads.
I don't think most people understand how long slavery has been around and who all has been enslaved. It didn't start with the black man!
I don't normally give a rats arse about how people believe but it's getting out of hand. Where does it stop? Will rich white people be the next target? Seems like that is the biggest thing that offends liberals and black people.
