I agree with you 100% here. The Confederate Flag should have never been flown over public buildings. However, if a citizen wishes to fly it on their own property, or display it in some other way, that is their right as an American.

This country got its start by using slave labor, but 95% or more of what this country is today and the infrastructure it operates on was built by free blacks, European immigrants, Latin American immigrants, and American citizens.

Completely agree. All I was pointing out is that America developed for a long time using slavery as a major labor source for a huge portion of the economy, and the foundation of America was certainly built partially by slavery.

Liberals and moderates of course...only the far right wants to wave its flag.
No one is banning it anywhere. Wave it all you want. It's simply that the government shouldn't wave it.
Just because a government doesn't do something doesn't mean that it's banned...kind of like protestant fundamentalism. You can still be a fundamentalist even though the government can't jam it down the rest of our throats (although the fundamentalists claim that the government is anti-religion when it doesn't do exactly that).

Says the man with Colonel Reb at the bottom of his post. How is Ole Miss' symbol any different from the Conferdrate flag? Both have been equated to the same hate-filled ideology of using these symbols to show support for the ways things were, right? Yet, you have an image of Colonel Reb killing the black bear that was supposed to distance the university from its alienating image - looks like you sir are a hypocrite...

OK, Mr. History...
He said, "all flags on both sides." Second, did all slave owners keep their slaves in chains? Did the black slave owners too?
You're the one who doesn't know shite about history. And I already pointed out just one little factoid to rebut you. I have more...
If Lincoln was such an obvious racist, then why is he so honored? Let's remove his image from everything since that seems to be the goal of removing racist images.
The killing of the 9 innocent people has nothing to do with the flag.
You have already been schooled here, Mr. History.
Edit: Most of your post was mere opinion and not based on any historical facts fwiw.

1. "The Civil War was an American Holocaust that should never be forgotten because a lot of people died"
Why leave up a flag just because a lot of people died fighting for what it represents? Does that make the cause admirable? Rebelling from your country and fighting a war over your ability to keep other human beings in chains and working for you isn't admirable - it's deplorable. If you want to keep it from never being forgotten - put it in a museum, you don't wave it proudly like it still represents your ideals and pride. Stupid.

2. "Civil War was not about slavery"
Know how I know this dude doesn't know anything about American History? This is the dumb shite I hear 16 year olds saying while they wear their confederate flag belt buckle and spit their dip. Without the argument about slavery, there is no Civil War. Go read the book Apostles of Disunion by Chales Dew, and if you don't like Charles Dew, go read the primary sources he cites. It outlines the arguments used by the Southern commissioners during their push to convince other states to secede from the Union - ironically enough, started by South Carolina. Almost every single one of them pointed to the ability to keep slavery as a primary reason for secession.

3. "Lincoln was a racist"
Who gives a shite if Lincoln was racist? Why is that an argument to keep the Confederate flag waving? What does that have to do with literally anything in this argument?

quote:
4. "We don't negotiate with terrorists" (referencing this clown who shot the 9 people in Charleston)
Another irrelevant argument that doesn't have anything to do with whether or not the Confederate flag should be displayed on public buildings.
The killing of the 9 innocent people has nothing to do with the flag.

Funny how nobody flew that confederate flag for 90 years until the civil rights movement and desegregation in the early 60's.
Obviously the Confederate flag as we know it is a symbol of rebellion against the Feds for making states treat blacks as equal to whites. At some point it got adopted to stand for heritage but that was truly out of naivety.
I mean, there really is no denying it.

Don't be ignorant. The flag was flown by citizens, and even on government buildings, for years prior to the civil rights movement. The reason it has become a symbol for racism is because the KKK adopted it during the 60's as a display of their belief in "white supremacy".

You do know the Confederate battle flag is incorporated into 4 or 5 state flags, correct? So, in a sense, it is still flown over government buildings today.
That's not the point though. My point was to show how ignorant your stance on it not being a part of Southern culture prior to the civil rights movement is. It was very much a part of the culture, it just didn't become racially charged until it was adopted by the KKK.
ETA: The battle flag was also used by the military into the 80's, I believe. So, your assertion that it's clearly used only in racially motivated situations is obviously quite debatable.
