How many of you were in this program?
Were we subjects of a failed experiment?

I was not. But I remember the kids who were. And not a one of them were white.

I've never heard anyone refer to it as GATES other than when I first saw this meme a few years ago. Also none of that is accurate.

my grandpa tried to get me tested for that sort of stuff but all I heard was it made you have more homework so I tanked on the test.

That’s what it was called. What did you call it?

Know it's a name for it, but I don't know what to call it.

I was a GATE kid and the only thing only that list that matches me is the 130+ IQ and I'm barely over that

I was never smart enough for special programs. Only the remedial programs.

Asking people if they were in a program where one of the characteristics is not remembering the program?
I was in several "gifted" classes into HS but I never got any drugs. FML

I was in gifted from 3rd grade all the way through high school. No one ever said GATES.

I’m not convinced those IQ tests are even accurate. Supposedly I was like 142 or something yet I flunked out of chemical engineering and ended up driving trucks.
So clearly someone is bullshitting

My school didn't have any such program. We were all dumb as rocks.

I was in TAG. Maybe like half of those things apply to me but some of them I don't feel like are very unique. Who didn't do at least a little drug experimentation in college for instance? And that last group of behaviors describes a large swath of my fellow millennials, particularly the younger ones, and Gen Z

What happened to me being a nerd was after 3rd Grade at Jefferson Terrace I was sent to the hood for 4th-8th grades.
I went to Buchanan Elementary for 4th and 5th
Then McKinley Middle Magnet for 6th-8th.
Our bus rides were 1.5hrs long to and from Village St George but we had some of the best teachers in the state.
I know now it was part of the desegration ruling and the EBR Magnet program to feed us to McKinley High(Gifted), Scotlandville and Baton Rouge High.
TLDR In Baton Rouge in the 80s, white nerdy kids all over EBR were sent to schools in the Baton Rouge hood and got a great education while black kids from the local neighborhoods were in the classrooms nextdoor.

Some of us rejected the programming.

Negative. Never seen that meme before but I am a bit stunned.
In my day it was called KEEP (Keeping Education Exciting and Productive) and I am 100% convinced it was some sort of big government information gathering operation. (FTR, I am NOT a conspiracist but I lived this.) They used to bus us off to a separate facility once a week and we did all kinds of weird shite. Some individual and some in groups. There was a ton of testing.
I have blue eyes, I had a drowning near death experience as a child (I drowned and they brought me back) and my IQ is well over 130. No clue about my occipital bun and not looking that up. I remember quite a bit of going to this thing, not aware of any birth issues and I smoked a bit at LSU but that was it. After writing that out, I am wondering if those characteristics are simply things that fit a large percentage of the population.

shite, how am I in this meme?

Never hear it called GATE. GT program, yes. TAG much later.
But yes I was in Gifted & Talented from 4th grade through 12th grade in BR. 80’s-early 90’s.
Westminster elm 4th-5th.
McKinley Middle 6th
Sherwood middle 7th-8th
McKinley High 9th-12th
All while living in Shenandoah Subdivision
EBR’s way to get ratios they needed due to desegregation ruling. (Thanks Judge Parker)
