The SRO didnt intervene for dress code purposes. He intervened due to the disturbance.

That part is being heavily debated. Students are posting claims the SRO tried to intervene before the student started causing the hallway issues.

Ya know what was nice about when I went to PUBLIC high school? We didn't have nor need police officers at school.

You know what you got in trouble for? Cutting class and having gum or candy at school.

Yeh, there were occasional fights, but those were fist fights or wrestling fights. Nobody had, or at least exposed any weapons.

frick this society. Kinda glad I'm getting old.

Update from Scott PD

Scott PD FB

quote:

On August 20, 2021 at 0704 hours, Officers were contacted by an Assistant Principal that a student was not following commands, was disturbing the peace, and refused to stop or comply. Officers were able to escort the suspect John Andrus, 19 years of age, to the front office when he attempted to walk away but was stopped by officers. Andrus then attempted to walk away again in the opposite direction. Officer grabbed Andrus by his hand and attempted to stop him when the he pulled away and began resisting. Andrus stayed tense, constantly trying to get away from officers. Officers were able to put a single hand cuff on the right hand of Andrus, but could not get it onto his opposing hand. At this time Andrus was placed against a glass window inside of the school hallway and continued to resist therefore cracking the glass. Andrus was then able to pull away at which time he and an officer fell to the ground. Andrus arose from his feet and using his right hand, that still had a hand cuff attached, swung a punch at the officer then ran down the hall way where he ultimately slowed down and was met at Taser point. Mr. Andrus was told multiple times to get on the ground or he would be Tazed. Mr. Andrus had the handcuff still attached to his right wrist and he continued to move around while he tried to rip the handcuff away from his wrist. He continued to not comply at which time he was Tazed. Mr. Andrus fell to the ground at which time he was placed in handcuffs and complied the remainder of the time. Mr. Andrus was escorted to the School Resource Officer Office and was checked out by Acadian Ambulance Services.

Mr. Andrus was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on the listed charges.
Disturbing the Peace, Aggravated assault on a police officer, Resisting an Officer by force and Criminal damage to Property.

During this entire incident, no students nor staff were injured during the process.

OK, I'll try this again

He didnt adress the student to get him to adhere to the dress code, the staff did that, The SRO addressed the student in regards to refusal to follow a directive from a staff member. He was probably given the option to remove the hoodie by the officer, not in the manner of dress code enforcement, but as a deescalation tactic, but since the kid refused . . . .

Thats when the arse kicking ensued

You must not have been around many high schoolers in the past 10 years. They wear those hoodies ALL THE TIME. Some of them claim it's because the classrooms are kept cold. I tend to think it's either to hide stuff or it feels like a security blanket to them.

Of course not, but that wasn't what I was responding to. I was responding to the hoodie in school and it being called dumb.
