“Free at last, free at last, Thank God Almighty, we are free at last,”
I wonder if he will ever come back into the political spotlight.......
My favorite Nagin rant was when he went off on the Feds after Katrina.....
Read the full transcript of the interview here.....I remember it like it was yesterday

Now, I will tell you this -- and I give the president some credit on this -- he sent one John Wayne dude down here that can get some stuff done, and his name is [Lt.] Gen. [Russel] Honore.
And he came off the doggone chopper, and he started cussing and people started moving. And he's getting some stuff done.
They ought to give that guy -- if they don't want to give it to me, give him full authority to get the job done, and we can save some people.

And they don't have a clue what's going on down here. They flew down here one time two days after the doggone event was over with TV cameras, AP reporters, all kind of goddamn -- excuse my French everybody in America, but I am pissed.
quote:
Free at last, free at last, Thank God Almighty, we are free at last,” Nagin wrote on X, quoting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Today, after ten years I am free again. God is good. Thank you Jesus! Peace.”
The 67-year-old former businessman-turned-politician was sentenced to 10 years in jail in 2014 but was released in April 2020 as prisons looked to manage the spread of COVID-19.
quote:
Nagin spent the next two years of his sentence under “community confinement” in his home in Frisco, Tex. Generally, those under community confinement must undergo daily “accountability checks” and need passes to work, according to a report in The Advocate.
The community confinement portion of Nagin’s sentence ended March 16, 2022, but he still had to serve two years of supervision or probation. That two year stint expired the day Nagin invoked Dr. King on social media.
Nagin served two terms as the Crescent City’s mayor after his election in 2002 but his tenure was marred first by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and then later by federal corruption charges.
He was convicted of several different crimes including wire fraud, bribery and tax evasion in 2014. While his time under government supervision has ended, Nagin is still required to pay back the IRS at a rate of $1,200, as ordered by U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo.

I've always believed that was/is a good dude..Katrina broke him, as well as lot of other people

I’m pretty sure I saw him working out in a gym in Nola 10 to 12 years ago. It was right before he went to prison.

The least surprising thing in this thread so far is Louisiana voters wishing they could support another felon politician.

Unfortunately true, that's how low our standards are.
He was doing a good job until Katrina

He was a better mayor than Mitch Landrieu and Teedy

About as clueless of a mother fricker as you could get.

My favorite Naginism was when he talked about how the murder rate got the "New Orleans brand" out there.

There's no way he's a good dude but I bet he's a fun dude. He and Teedy can probably throw a good party.

Just in time to go do some grifting at the Louisiana legislative session.
