Not of that size. It’d be stupid expensive for many reasons to be American flagged. Your “biggest” American flag ships other than military would be your offshore rig movers, and a handful of tankers.

What type of insurance limits do those big cargo vessels have to have?
Finally. Welcome to my office.
Let me tell you kids all about the world of commercial P&I insurance. My portion of the world is all a buzz this morning.
This was operated by Maersk. Their coverage is through a $3bn reinsurance pool through international group of P&I clubs.
Too early to say exactly how high the damages will go.

Unfortunately, immediately we need to put up bumpers or pylons to protect bridge supports on every span that see's ship traffic. You can't count on people being good at their craft or not stoned out of their mind on Xanax. Sorry but the world now has to be child proofed to the lowest common denominator to protect innocents.

I hope some workers survived but it seems crazy that anyone could survive this. If the crew had reported propulsion failure early enough I wonder how much time it would've taken to alert a road crew working there.
What’s nuts is that the whole thing just went straight down. No sections still standing, no pillars, nothing. I would’ve thought something would stayed upright.
ETA I just saw in the still photo the other pillars are still there.

Seems like it only happens during an issue though. It’s typically mixed with some steam and is whiter. According to the google machine.

I understand the sentiment but with a ship that size, you are going to need a lot more than bumpers and pylons.

If you go back you can see that the ship lost power all the light go out.

Doesn't prior knowledge sidestep that? I would think it would ba hard not to find something that could be considered enough prior knowledge to avoid a dismissal of a suit on any commercial vessel more than a couple of years old.

I have an unnatural fear of bridges. I have to cross the MS and TN rivers daily each week for work.
This is terrifying for me.

Exactly
Same for Tampa, Miami, parts of Houston , some in Louisiana, Seattle, and plenty of others use escotlrt tugs
It’s been a lobbying effort for years . Pilots have lobbied to have their own tugs to be used for this very purpose.

Just just hope that the pilots onboard are diverse, equitable and inclusive

Damn that ship had a shite ton of cargo on it also. If it lost power anything in its way was getting taken out.

Yeah you can see the ship go black, however that still doesn’t rule out sabotage or terrorism.

Not sure those containers were full heading back to Singapore

Yes. Terrorism. Which typically happens at the time of day where the least amount of people are risked to be killed.

Yikes! I hope they are able to rescue everyone who went into the water.
