the center of the storm was completely inside the 48 hour cone at landfall.
To be fair, the cone extends beyond landfall.
Obviously, the path of the storm after landfall is every bit as important as the path after landfall.
Is there a reason you added that qualifier?

because I was replying to a post that said:

65% of the eye at landfall was out the cone.

At landfall and you can add the remaining entire track it took.

From a weather standpoint, the winds peaked at gusts of about 65-70 based on my 50 plus years of storm experience. The winds were more in gusts than sustained which I estimate were around 35-40 at most.
That seems pretty correct. Most people greatly overestimate wind speed. It’ll be 50 mph and they’ll say 80-90 mph. When it’s actually 80-90 mph you’ll see the difference.

The back side west winds with very little rainfall were a little stronger than the front side. That was probably due to the track jog across Houma into Raceland before heading north.
Hurricane Laura was like that too once it degraded. These halfricanes are huge windstorms on the dry back half.

I’m in P’Ville near airline and Germany. Entergy map changed from Red to Green about an hour ago showing I have power again.
I do not have power.
Had to call entergy and report the outage again.
My neighbors still out of power also.

In Houma? What part?
Entergy itself is already restoring some people.
From what my sauces are telling me, I heard the Entergy feeders are good coming into the substations in Terrebonne and most of the damages are tree and pole related.
Some places with Entergy have power, some sections of Idlewild and Southland Mall have power according to Entergy's Outage Map. Heck even East Street has power by Walmart. Entergy also using the Southland Mall parking lot as a staging area.
City of Houma's main feeder coming from Entergy is working. The city is hopeful to energize the main lines downtown to power the hospital and downtown government buildings as early as tonight.

good to know that my generator lasted all day for them, and now I get to go back to a normalish house

Jealous! Still out off Swamp Rd. I have a standby generator so it’s fine, but Cox is out with no updates and our phones barely worked all day with AT&T. I need to dump both.

Years ago I learned about wind speed estimation from experience. I had a personal weather station that one day recorded a 46 mph gust during a strong thunderstorm. Without the station I would have estimated that gust to be 65-70. Ever since then I have realized just how strong a 75 mph wind is and can estimate much more accurately.
