Wind steady at 30-35 with gusts to 50 here in north AL. No rain yet, but it looks like it will start soon.

Yeah I don’t think it will take that long for most. Some maybe. Like someone mentioned, it doesn’t seem like the neighborhood lines were damaged all that much, but their main line can’t power their substations.
Not sure though, just relaying what I saw. Really hope no one is out of power for that long

Thanks for that, I had never heard that one before.
If we ever respond to your area please introduce yourself. Not kidding and no Im not asking to meet at sonic. I can take that stuff, the tiger baiting stuff. Its pretty funny.
I do what I do because I think it helps people. And if someone wants to say something about Alabama thats fine. Ill hand you a meal and smile. If you arent too big of an arse about it I might even tell you "go tigers". I am not a rabid Alabama fan. Ill pull for every SEC team except Tennessee. I hope they never win a game in any sport for eternity.
Our group is a mix of mostly Alabama fans and one Auburn fan. We dont have any team stuff displayed when we are cooking. No flags, banners or shirts. The only thing we have is the American flag on our tent.

Ah ha! So, what you're saying is that a bunch of Alabama fans are holding a poor Auburn fan hostage? That's turrible!

My in laws are in Patterson, Morgan City, and Stephenville. They made out ok but said there are some neighborhoods in the area that took it way worse than they were expecting.
Apparently the main transmission line is down for SLECA. They won’t give any type of expected date for power to come back but mentioned it could be up to 2 weeks in some areas
I had not heard about that. Do you know how many people would be affected by the 2 weeks outage? Is it a small area?

Actually the Auburn guy is one of the guys who started it. We let him think he is in charge.

No clue. I honestly found it hard to believe it would take that long, but I’d have to imagine a majority of people would have power by then. Not trying to change your plans, just passing along some info I’ve heard from the area.

I just got back from Morgan City, Houma, and Thibodaux,,,,doesn’t look like Car2 damage, not even Cat1

I find the graphic that shows TS and Hurricane force wind impact radius more informative than the cone. What I want to know is what I am getting. Not a pinpoint on where the centerline of the track will be. That's how I prepare.

You mean to tell me all those soft reporters crying about how much the blowing rain hurt their faces were being dramatic?

Ouch. That sucks.
On the subject - be on guard if you have a mature water oak anywhere near your house. As the old saying goes: They take 20 years to grow and 50 years to die. Baton Rouge got absolutely fricked up by them during Gustav.

Definitive out the cone. Thanks. And that’s not nitpicking the “half the eye” argument they proposed a while back.
Adding… could be argued that the entire cone was missed being that the majority of the eye was absolutely out the cone at landfall and the entire time it was “in the 190 mile wide cone”

Didn't see poles that were broken but did see some leaning but not bad. Very little power cables and on the ground.
Poles around Valhi are snapped in half, but thats the only ones I saw on my way into work this afternoon.
Our other office in Morgan City just texted and said the mayor there saying they expect two weeks without power.

they forecast the center of circulation, not the "eye"
the center of circulation was completely within the cone at Landfall.
and before you say it, the center of the "eye" is not always the center of circulation.

Idk where these power estimates are coming from because I rode around a bit today as well and I don't see anything major.
The main Entergy transmission into Houma/SLECA must he completely tricked. Because the actual infrastructure around Houma is not bad. The only "major" damage to City power was the substation next to the old power plant.
Even going down dularge to falgout canal didn't seem bad according to a friend.
I think they are giving long estimes to seem like superheros when bring it back on line "ahead of schedule"

By the time it made the "turn" ol' boy is pimping so hard the "eye" was probably 90 miles wide. It isn't the win that he, or Chad, seems to think it is.

quote:I'm not into moving goalposts. 65% of the eye at landfall was out the cone. More than half the eye was out the cone the entire path it took. Their less than 48 hr forecast was dog shite. Besides the fact their real track was way yonder in Baton Rouge. Before you say not a track, it’s literally called the track button on their website.

I have Entergy and ( I hate being the guy to post rumors) the word around our neighborhood is that they expected us to have power back by tonight or tom morning.
