I still take 90 headed back to Metairie, if I'm traveling from west of Lafayette, so I don't have to deal with the bridge in Baton Rouge. It's only about a 20 minute difference.

extension of 3235 from Larose to US 90

I didn’t realize that was a potential project in the works. I’ve been watching the 3235 extension from Golden Meadow to Leeville.

The 'hold up' has always been the segment thru the city of Lafayette. It will be disruptive to the 'Thruway' and adjoining properties. I think the best chance for success would be to bypass the city (either the Teche Ridge option to the east or possibly to the west near Scott or Mire).

It was a project that was talked about for years, but when funding for the Leeville-Golden Meadow bridge dried up, planners took a backseat in trying to plan for that project as it would be still a several years in the making.

That is part of the reason for the wide median at the end of the 4 lane in Larose. Plans were to build a 4 lane overpass in Larose and continue north crossing Bayou Lafourche between Lockport and Larose and then meeting up with US 90. If that project is now completely dead, I wonder what will happen to the LA1 Coalition now that the Leeville bridge is done, unless they continue to push for a second bridge make it a 4 lane between Golden Meadow and Leeville, but that might not be the best route unless traffic volume improves.

Still the best project in my opinion would be to improve access in the Central Lafourche area. There is way too much traffic Matthews with just 2 2-lane roads. Even if they just did a phase one with adding a third 2 lane road from US 90 to the Gheens Road that could free up some of the through traffic on LA 1.

Not being mean, but explain to me why taxpayers across the country should pay billions for a 50 year old project in the 133th largest metro area in the country to improve a highway to save a few people maybe, hopefully 5-7 minutes going through the area. Its not like congestion is stifling the region, although I get the annoyance.

It would be different if the Lafayette region and the State of Louisiana could contribute significantly, but the state is apparently broke.

I'm all for investing in local infrastructure, but this seems like it should be far down the line of statewide priorities.

Freight routes would be improved, not just local traffic. And freight routes are of national importance.

The run between Thibodaux and Lafayette might be the worse drive in America.

Agree. Both LA 1 and LA 308 from 90 to Larose get quite congested in the morning and afternoons Monday-Friday, with 308 being even worse during cane harvesting season.

I drove through that part of Lafayette last week and I think it’s gotten even more trashier—if that’s even possible.

I actually like it compared to most multilane highway/interstate drives.

Ozona to about Van Horn on I-10 in West TX lulls me to sleep, as does I-45 from about Huntsville to Dallas. US 285 between Roswell and Clines Corners is pretty damn boring as well.

The connector through Lafayette should be 1000 times more important than the connector through Shreveport. We have the loop up here, which in all reality is fine, it just takes a few minutes longer. Going through Laffy to get to Hwy 90 is ridiculous.

Another reason why Gov Foster was actually a failure. Should have been a priority to lay down the infrastructure plan for the I-49 project. But his priority was getting a law degree and planning his next hunting trip.

Just stay out of the left lane with that amateur speed.

Interstate highways are not about "local" traffic

Speak for yourself Baw! Only a few miles through Queensborough ghetto & unused land is holding up a complete North/South 49 connection through Shreveport.

That Thruway portion through Laffy is freaking terrible though. On my many travels there, I saw somebody just renovated an old house & added an extension on that land, so I guess he’s good for a few years. Lol

I take 90 pretty much every time that I need to go to New Orleans from Lafayette, even if it’s 15-20 minutes longer. I’d much rather that than risk sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on I-10.

That title is held by the drive from Lafayette to Baton Rouge on I-10.

Mike Foster's first year in office (mid 90s), the state put up a road sign on the ground level ramp the of the Westbank Expressway where Algiers meets Jefferson Parish. "Future I-49 Corridor"

A decade later Katrina blew the sign over.
