Longtime WAFB anchor and investigative reporter Paul Gates passed away peacefully at the age of 69.
quote:
A native of the small town of Tullos, Louisiana, Paul joined WAFB as a reporter in March 1977. He served as the station's 5 p.m. news anchor beginning in 2001. His many investigative reports, titled "Paul Gates Investigates," uncovered corruption, pollution, and wrongdoing across Louisiana.

In 2011, Paul revealed his diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease. It took nearly a year before he was accurately diagnosed. In a message that aired on the station's 5 pm newscast, Paul thanked viewers for their "flattering emails and news tips over the years." "My wife Michelle and I talked at length about me retiring," Paul said at the time. "We both agreed the wise thing is for me to take care of myself and take retirement." Paul passed away Tuesday, June 21 at 12:15 p.m. He was surrounded by his family.

Too young for that. He's apparently been gone for a few years. Very sad.

He was great and funny on air.
I remember one time with a typical N. BR shooting he something like 'La'Darrius shot a man he didn't particularly care for very much.'
RIP

Very sad. He was a great guy and a hell of a cook too.

Has to be the most famous person to come from Tullos. Calling it a town is stretching the point. It's more like a couple of houses and a store.

Always made broadcasts funny. Definitely my favorite news anchor.

So sad. A lifetime of memories and relationships essentially taken away from you. I assume the bottom picture is fairly recent. If so, it looks like he essentially has no clue that he is holding his grandchild

Tullo's Major M. Doughty, d. 12-19-1983, might disagree. Who was he?
Father of Soul Coughing's founder Mike Doughty.
