Maybe it’s gotten better since 2020, but he was very unpopular by the time he resigned.

I’m not going to pretend to know anything about Japanese politics though to comment on his policies.

It's hard to believe someone with a gun was able to get that close to him. I guess they don't have the same level of security for former prime ministers in Japan that we do have for former presidents in the USA.

Former presidents aren't that well protected either, unless there's some imminent threat. If somebody wanted to take out Clinton or W it would be doable.

Note to Mr. Fed monitoring this board:. I have no intention or plan of doing any such thing.

pretty typical OT thread. Every post is either a deranged conspiracy theorist or a gun nut.

This isn't fair. You didn't mention the posts by freedom-hating fart gargling leftist twats.

Abe will sadly be about one of ten people in Japan this year who will die this year from a gunshot wound. In the US we are lucky if we can go an hour without 10 people getting shot

Amazing what being an island nation with a strong homogenous cultural, racial, and ethnical makeup that enshrines obedience can do to violent crime rates.

Don't they get lifetime secret service protection?

So, it looks like the report of it being a Japanese national was correct.

I thought this kind of crackerjack journalism was dead - But the true identity of the assailant has been revealed to the world.

I'd like to move there although I suspect that they won't trust me.

Pretty sure the Yakuza has some major control over crime there as well which likely curbs gang violence unlike the US or other nations

They do, but it's not a full entourage like a sitting president. And some choose to forego it. Jimmy Carter hasn't had a security detail for years.

I’m going to find out who makes this DX-12 and buy as much of them as I can as soon as the markets open. (Provided they are publicly traded)

Sales about to explode.

It that I’m saying it wouldn’t be easier than the sitting President, but I know a few people on Bush’s detail in central Texas.

They may get him but there’s somebody with a smg around him at all times. One dude has a pretty funny picture of himsf trying to keep up with Bush on a mountain bike in Crawford strapping two SMGs.

Also I’m not going to make my assumptions on the Chinese citizens based entirely on some app. I mean imagine if some European person believed that every American was just like the average PT poster

It’s not like Abe didn’t have any number of domestic enemies or enemies within his own party, let alone the possibility of a random, nutjob schizo.

Considering the implications, *direct* Chinese involvement is probably one of the least likely scenarios.
