TL;DR. What are some ways you guys still feed that primal need to compete? Any athletic competitions any of you participate in?

i am by nature, not an overly competitive person. i don't like losing or anything, i just don't have to win to feel gratified. track was my main sport in HS.

in my early 30s i got back to running. obviously i'm not going to go out and try to set records in the 400m again, but i downloaded an app called strava. it records your runs, which is not that big a deal, but it also has segments that other runners have created that you can compete against people on. i always aim to be top 10%, but i'll go balls out if i think it's obtainable to get the record and have in a few places.

i got plugged into a group that runs trails and we go after the King of the Mountain positions for different segments wherever we run. it makes the whole thing a bit more competitive as well as an element of fun instead of just mindless running.

Yep, I have rolled with a couple of phenoms including a Gracie or 2. Rickson will tell even his Black Belts how he is going to tap you and you can do everything in the world to prevent that sub and damn if he doesn't get it.

Rickson is the goat as far as I’m concerned. Crazy how good his son is as well considering he doesn’t seem to be obsessed with it as much as other members

Kron? He is pretty obsessed with it too. I just moved back home to NE LA and I know a former Pedro Sauer Black Belt that is now a Kron Gracie affiliate school here. I will be joining this school and Kron comes here about once a year. He maybe the best jits guy I have ever seen.

Yeah, but from hearing him talk he didn’t really get serious (for a Gracie) until later in childhood. Liked to skateboard, surf, etc and didn’t really love BJJ until his late teens

Oh he still does all that plus rides a mountain bike. I was out at his school last year and he surfs just about every morning. I think Rickson surfs too (or did).

admire this. What happened in your fight?

I was just joking. The closest I ever got to mma was I took taekwondo for a year and a half before my first kid was born. Didn’t have time for it after that and had to quit.
