When I turned 40 overnight, I woke up with diverticulitis and gout in my toe. I take Tart cherry and turmeric supplement for joints. If the injury is bad, I'll get a Toradol shot. Just had subchonroplasty done on my knee from a stress fracture. If your hurt just find something to stay active even if its walking.

100% true story. we had this woman come and do some contract work for us one time and she was pushing 300. the smell coming from her was God-awful. Just God-awful. One day she casually mentioned something about being in a horrific car accident and it taking 2 years to recover some of her mobility.

Turns out she used to be a CHEERLEADER and was a major hottie. This was like 20 years ago so no, I don't have any before/after pics.

Short story - everyone in this thread is right. You should never stop moving even with pain.

Stretch daily for 10 minutes a day for a month and see how you feel

I'm 35 and noticed my right knee hurting before a rain. I blew out my PCL when I was 17. I felt old as hell the first time that Knee pain came along.

Early 40's. Shoulders started going to shite from lifting. Now I don't do heavy barbell work, but stick to lighter, high-rep dumbells, cables, and bands. My legs are generally OK. Good knees, but the Achilles tendons like to tighten up on me. I treat them very delicately. The only things I use are ibuprofen and naproxen.

I was close to 40. Last year I stopped eating all carbs(as much as possible) and those aches went away for me.

Walking. Used to be a runner, marathons and all that stuff. But my knees and ankles don't like pavement anymore.

If I do a 4-mile hilly walk (in the park, on pea gravel) twice a week, joints and back are fine. If not, thinks stiffen up noticeably.

Oh and I'm 60.

Rest. Most old people injuries are repetitive stress injuries. Take 3 days off at least. Yes I know that sucks and vary your exercises.

Around 50

what do you take for it

Plenty of vitamins and Voltaren as needed. Feel great for the most part. If I can just get rid of this elbow issue I'd be golden.

At 36 I had to really adjust how intense I was exercising. My hip started really hurting, and as long as I don’t run I can still do a lot. I have arthritis in my left Achilles so in the morning I have a warmup / pt to get it loosened up.

Started a little late 40s, escalated in 50s. Cleaned up diet to create a less acidic ph. All pain gone with that, daily stretching and a combination of CrossFit, bodybuilding workouts, walking and cycling. Fit as eager and pain free. Diet is key if you want to maintain any semblance of your younger self. Otherwise you will become a health train wreck. Don’t shoot the messenger.

50 now and gained some weight in my
40’s so everything hurts now.

Played basketball growing up and even continued some into my early twenties in a church league. Didn’t really play from mid 20’s on except for shooting ball in the driveway with my kids. When I was about 34 I was invited to go play some ball with a bunch of younger guys I worked with. They were all in early to mid 20’s. It was so strange. I still could shoot pretty well but trying to drive the ball was crazy. Or guarding someone attempting to drive the ball. My brain could still see exactly what I needed to do but it was like my body was on a 2 second delay. Still had fun but man it made me feel old. Not saying I was college skill level player but definitely could more than hold my own in a pick up game at the gym or a park. Kept thinking I should be dominating these kids and just couldn’t do it.

Mid 30s, but I abused the hell out of my shoulders when I was younger, working out and throwing. Tore both labrums when I was 20. Repaired my right one, and tore it again about a year later. Finally hurt too much and had another repair at 40. He said I had so much arthritis that he may have put off shoulder replacement 15 years, but it’s inevitable. And I’ve got kidney disease that prevents me from being able to take any pain meds, even OTC NAISDS.

Best advice has already been given, but my PT summed it up with the slogan “Motion is Lotion.” It’s so true. It’s hard to get going from a complete stop, so don’t. Keep moving. And I’ve discovered walking has a ton of benefits. I started walking with a weighted vest during the lockdown, and I haven’t felt better since I was in my late 20s.

I'm 66, work out three times a week, and have no aches and pains. Not taking any prescriptions.

33. Dislocated knee cap, ended up with a maltracking patellar. Have been dealing with it for about 8 months. First round of cortisone and PT seemed to work but it’s starting to show its ugly face again. Having to do another round of PT starting this week in hopes of avoiding surgery. Really feel like my body is letting me down here.
