Ford makes a shite ton of fleet sales. Fleets typically keep a couple years and then dump on the used market.

personally i find that GM owners keep their trucks longer than ford guys. someone should do a study.

I like the look of the GM trucks too but just bought a Ford. Every GM product I’ve had has been nothing but trouble.

I like the look of them also. However I have a friend that has had like 3 transmissions in his and has constant other problems. But reality is, this is the way it is with all vehicles. They can build 2 side by side and they could act completely different in maintenance and defects.
GM doesn't have near the fleet and rentals that Ford or even Dodge have now. It's not a truck you normally see driving around with a company name on it. I prefer the ride of a Dodge, but know they have their problems. They all have their issues.

I saw a segment on youtube with the Wizards Shop that focused on Ford trucks and the 3 valve 5.4 litre 8 bangers.
Apparently there's a very common issue with the cam phasers that leads to almost guaranteed failure.
That would be part of it. My FIL has an f150 4x4 with that same engine.

Think of it this way:
Ford has one brand and the most sales of trucks per year.
GM as a whole sells just under the same number of trucks as ford, but is split between GMC and Chevy.

My mom bought a Dodge Spirit (90 model) that was brand new.
However back then Chrysler was still having only 12 month/12k miles warranty.
An internal part of the rear box axle broke off inside and started rattle when driving. This was just outside the warranty period. It cost $400 just to get the part out to avoid the rattle.
The A/C compressor practically killed the pathetic 4 banger when it turned on. It sounded like the engine was about to jump off it's mounts whenever it turned on.
Chrysler products have been shite since the late 70's. While Ford and GM improved, Chrysler stayed behind.

My buddy just had the same problem with a Chevy. Dealership had to buy it back.

Idk but I’ve been looking at used Fords for over a month now and the market baffles me.
A 2014 XLT with 80,000 miles goes for $18k and a 2019 XLT with 25,000 miles goes for $22k. Who in the hell is out there buying the former?
