Agree, but Lucid is cool AF. That Sapphire is badass.

Rivian has the very best SUV and truck. (EV)

Mrs Cars next car might be a Sapphire...

Ok yeah, those are all nice but the price point is quite different than Tesla model y/3 and Ford, etc. but yes the high end EV market has some incredibly cool options.

If you can’t sell your product without the government having to incentivize people to buy it, then there is no real market for your product.

Well, make better EVs and compete more - or exit the space.

This has been a massive clusterfrick by politicians, US car manufacturers, and, "the people" deserve a lot of the credit for making it a political issue. Vehicle sales have been a driver of the industry for 100 years and I guarantee EVs are going to be a major part of passenger car sales in the future. We had a massive competitive/technological advantage over every other country in the world, and we ceded it to Europe and China.

Garbage. Unless battery technology vastly improves, EV’s are going nowhere. They are garbage in their current form.

Well, that isnt true, but EVs depreciate like a stone, so clearly, the market agrees with you.

If only. Can we stop the oil subsidies as well?

Do you think subsidizing oil production is the same as direct subsidization of consumer vehicles?

Just curious, what is the most recently produced EV you have driven?

Who would have expected that…..

Just like the UV panel tax credit for homes. Without the tax credit it doesn’t payback.

Tech may one day work but it is not here yet

Which means it can't stand on its own outside of, maybe, Tesla.

The market is still OK in Europe but the Euro manufacturers are ceding the market to the Chinese which now have a significant part of the market and growing quickly. Europe makes up 60% of the Chinese export market.

But our government shouldn’t be subsidizing companies to sell shite overseas. That’s absurd.

Europe has very very few long commuters and road trippers. They are better suited.

FWIW I think there’s a really strong market for a very small daily driver to work and back for Americans and then we can do something like own a porche or F250 for the weekend vehicle.

I am absolutely gobsmacked by people's poor grasp of even basic macro economics.

The idea is not to subsize an industry in order to reduce the proce for overseas customers, it is to foster an industry in order to maintain a technological advantage in order to manufacture widgets here and export them. This build manufacturing in this country and increases our tax base and does all the stuff that the tariffs are designed to do. It just does it in a proactive way that gives everyone what they want instead of being punitive and starting trade wars.

Don't forget we have given a ton of financial support to the oil industry over the years and they sell a lot of good to Europe which most people see as a good thing for the US. I see increased manufacturing and export as a good thing and quite frankly I don't see the downside.

The only good EVs are Teslas and they’re great.

Everything else blows.

And you would be correct. They are going nowhere and it's not because the Chinese are so good at it. Simply put, most of the EV market was driven by the fact that engineers have been saying for over a decade, "we're only 2 years away from solid state". If you're in this thread arguing for EVs and know nothing about the battery technology, I suggest you take some time and go research both solid state batteries and the junk it takes to make these batteries in the first place.

Simply put, most manufacturers have abandoned EVs because they cannot wait any longer for technology that would revolutionize the EV market. 600-800 mile range, 5 minute charge times etc seems like it's too good to be true but the makers have been promised that for years. They now realize they've been sold a bill of goods that won't deliver.
