Don't buy ads...yet. Spend the first year or two developing a content marketing plan and rolling it out on all platforms, every week. Create short shows for Tik Tok, Insta, YouTube. Write guest blogs posts with backlinks (or hire someone.oj Fiverr to write for you). Contribute on Reddit. Engage in related topics on Twitter. DM influencers on IG and offer them free stuff to mention you. Drive folks to your site by spreading meaningful content across social networks and related blogs. Tighten up SEO too. It's a long slog and eventually you'll sort out what doesn't work and leave those things behind. But at first try all platforms and create meaningful content.

quote:You are talking about the demographic every financial institution in the world is willing to pay a premium to get. This is not 2002. You aren’t going to grow this thing with cheap paid advertising. You can’t afford to compete even if your site had traction. It doesn’t. Cost per acquisition on a user signup like this will be $40-120. This is why I all those “free” services sell data. If you are serious about spending several hundred thousand dollars on ads, say so and I’ll email you to talk about a business plan. Otherwise you should be doing it 100% organically, and then the active users you get signed up for free that keep using the site will ultimately have a value of … shocker… $40-120. Pick a different niche where you aren’t competing will trillion dollar entities. If I asked you, “did you code this site yourself? Do you host it? Do you know the encryption specs you are using to protect people’s most sensitive data?” and you said anything like “I’m more the IDEA MAN” …. Shut it down today and stop wasting your money.
late 20's to late 40's with a net worth probably $100K-$2M. You think people like that are using Tik Tok?

New website? First week? It takes time.

The target demographic for this website is probably young professionals, late 20's to late 40's with a net worth probably $100K-$2M
The amount of people in this category is very small and they aren't going to pay for information that is free all over the internet.
The selling it to a giant company is pie in the sky

All fair points. Just got off the phone with a good friend who started his own business and he recommended that I pretty much skip digital advertising for now and focus on meeting with local CPA's and financial advisors and see about getting their clients to use the service.

You haven't shared near enough info for me to even begin to help.
I have lead or been on the management team of three different websites 1 IPO'd with over a billion-dollar valuation, the second was sold for between $400 and $500MM, and the third has a current valuation of a little over $20MM it's a relative start-up.
What I can tell you is it isn't one thing it is 100 things or more all aligning just right.

It's a personal finance themed website so scantily clad women isn't an option unfortunately.

Sounds like a discussion best handled by email (I just can't go into that level of detail here), if you can shoot me an email at LSUInvestor@yahoo.com that'd be great. Someone of your skill set I could arrange to pay for a thorough review of everything and in receipt get your advice for how I should move forward. Better use of $ than on SEO or engaging some advertising company!

Sounds like you had a dumb idea.

That's certainly a possibility. I did lots of research and nothing comparable to it exists in the market though, that I'm confident of. I had to build it because I couldn't find it anywhere else. But you can build a website with a unique product, but if no one goes to it, it's not gonna succeed.

Who is your audience in less than 5 words?
If not, how about 10 words?
If you can't articulate that you can bet your competition can.
