For those of you with a successful website, how did you "break through" to get traffic?

I started my own website this past week, but the hits to the website and the number of users who signed up on the website(it's all free) were much lower than I was expecting. I've tried facebook advertising, got a decent amount of likes on our facebook page for that but very few follow throughs to the website. Tried one twitter ad and realized it's a cesspool and not worth it. Tried to get an ad on LinkedIn (which I think is probably our best bet as my website is focused on detail oriented young professionals), but they aren't approving it as they are lumping the website in the loans and financial services category which they say requires third party accreditation.

So those of you with a website that "took off".... how long did it take you to get the results you were looking for? What was the "lucky break" or strategy you used that ended up working? Thanks!

It's a personal finance themed website so scantily clad women isn't an option unfortunately. Although not against the law I guess??

What area of business are you in?

You might not actually need a website depending on what is is that you do or offer.

I’m today’s world, Instagram and TikTok are the new homepages of the web.

Personal finance. It's a website where you can put in your own input assumptions and see projections regarding retirement, budgeting, net worth, kid's college expenses, etc. Whole website is free right now as it's in a beta phase and I'm trying to get the most feedback possible to get improvements. Dream is to grind it out for a few years and then sell it to a brokerage company like Etrade for lots of $$$'s.

Was this cost regarding search engine optimization, digital advertising on other websites, etc?

I can't mention the URL for it or directly advertise for it on here (per site rules).

This is serious advice.

Download TikTok.

Search personal finance / investing and see how those guys make a 15-30 second video drive traffic to their websites.

You’ll find people drive traffic to their websites and offer finance templates, etc.

Seems like your idea could fit well here.

Killing my (cute) girlfriend did wonders for traffic on all my SM and other sites. Can recommend.

I don’t know what your site is but if you want traffic pay some dumbass instagram “influencers” to shill your site/service/products and you will get traffic. Now it’s on you to keep that traffic.

Crazy world. I'll give it a shot as I'm desperate. I'm about the last person you'd expect to see on Tik Tok! The target demographic for this website is probably young professionals, late 20's to late 40's with a net worth probably $100K-$2M. You think people like that are using Tik Tok?

I've been in development world the past three years on this website, now just making the switch to marketing world. It's a brutal transition and I'm feeling lost tbh.
