My father shot a young woman in the head over 80 dollars when I was 14 years old. Learned a few weeks ago that he has terminal cancer. I've hated the man as long as I can remember and now I just feel a cruel sadness about it all.

26. Will be 20 years this Oct. My sister was pregnant with family's 1st grandchild. He never got to meet his 8 grandkids. Enjoy what time you have left. I missed out on a lot.

My dad passed 4 years ago. I was 42. Miss him dearly. Time slowly heals but it never gets easier. Would love to have one of those silly conversations I took for granted with him again. Damn
RIP dad
RIP dad

I lost my mom in March ‘20 and my dad in May ‘20. I was 42. My dad and I were very tight for many years. To make a long story short, though, alcohol got a grip on him and we weren’t on speaking terms when he died. The last time I saw him alive was at my mom’s funeral.
I have some guilt and a lot of sympathy for my mom. She was good as gold. I was good to her except that I wasn’t around as much as I should have been. She deserved a hell of a lot more from my dad.
My dad is more tragic than sympathetic. In his prime he had a lot of success and was highly respected. But at the end of his life he had a lot of health, financial, and legal problems and he caused every single one of them.

I'm pretty jealous of you, my Dad died from kidney cancer when I was 15. He was 41 years old. It happened on the last day of school of my Sophomore year. I'd give body parts or years of my own life to have another 20-30 years with him.

I was 27. fricking sucks. I still have dreams about him and that he survived. I’m almost 40 now. He was my best friend. Cherish every moment you have with your father.

Not everyone has a good father but in my case I agree. My dad is my best friend

11. Car accident. Just before the age I envision dads and sons becoming really close as he teaches them to be a man.

I'm so sorry, and I'm so sorry for everyone else in this thread. My dad is 73, and I'm terrified of losing him. He's my hero, my mentor, and I don't know how I'm going to handle it. I had to move away, I couldn't handle Louisiana anymore, but I miss going to breweries with him and just talking about life.

33. I'm just glad he got to hold his only 2 grandkids. My daughter was 8 months old and my son 22 months old

Lost both my father and mother two weeks after my first birthday. I was raised by my maternal grandmother until she died when I was 14.

Prayers for your father and more importantly, you. He will be going to a better place. His struggles ended. I was 54. The mind going before the body is harder on those surrounding. I lost my father long before he actually died.
