Sure. It's a choice. I choose to have others in my extended family very involved in the lives of my children.
Maybe it's the right choice, maybe it's the wrong one. But that's why I'm here.
When we lived in Houston, we had plenty of friends with kids who saw their grandparents once or twice a year. That's not the life I want for my kids.

this should give you a good idea.. This is for 06/24 to 06/25. Click on the tab to give you a better view by numbers. This is the best I could do as I am in the middle of something right now.
Let me say this I think we are all angry with the crime here in New Orleans. This is our city and this shite is happening on our streets by people who don't give a shite about any body but themselves.

The wife and I may come again, but it will be way less often. My young children will no longer visit. The extra liability of having to worry about them reduces my options in regards to self defense.
Thugs prey on those they perceive weak such as someone that is stumbling from a few too many drinks, the elderly, and those who have too much to lose.

I know how to read a crime map....that's not what I asked you.
Are you going to give me the facts that you based your claim that "a lot of people are mugged every day in New Orleans" or not?
You said more than fingers and toes that you have, I assume you have 20 finger and toes...is that how many people are mugged everyday in New Orleans

This is what idiots say about white flight when neighborhoods change....."It's all the fault of the people leaving and not the thugs taking over"!

OP is just wrong. You can't live your life that way. If you are too afraid to invite friends to town you should move to somewhere you feel safer. There are problems and they need to be addressed, but it was much worse in early 90s and I would never tell friends not to visit, then or now.

Before all of this started hitting the fan I purchased two tickets to Phantom at the Saenger for next June for my wife's birthday. I plan on parking as close as possible to the theater - get in and get out.
If I can't sell the tickets first.

I had a meeting scheduled for Place St. Charles set for tomorrow afternoon and several business execs emailed today and said the meeting would have to be moved out of the CBD or they wouldn't attend due to the crime situation.
Definitely having an impact but hopefully this passes and people start feeling more secure again.

New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Michael Harrison said Monday the two men from the Boston area were walking back to their hotel and "didn't see it coming."
I didn't see any hotels in that immediate area on Mapquest. If they were going to the Wyndham or Westin, then anybody with any sense would have walked down to well-lit and busy Canal St then to the hotel. Those guys are from the Boston area and should be familiar with crime and how to be safe.

BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you go back to the beginning of the year...since January 1st the average is 3.0 robberies a day..
So Athis only has 2.9 fingers and toes

People laugh, but that's how shite actually changes. You have some big execs cancel projects and meetings, things that actually have a legit and clear economic impact. That's how the politicians get pushed into making real changes.
Say what you want, but good for them. Everyone complains about people not actually doing anything, but those "pansies" that didn't want to attend very easily could of just been putting their foot down to help make some changes.
