Folding Blade Knife - Advice: UPDATE Page 6, purchase made

On a quest to find something for my old man for Christmas and I'm struggling since he has it or can just go buy it. After some thinking, I thought a nice pocket knife would be a good gift.
I come to the baws of the OT for advice. Locking blade. Something light and fits in a pocket well. Holds a good edge, maybe fairly easy to sharpen, not sure the two go hand in hand, though. Not for any specific task, just a useful tool to have in you pocket that doesn't feel like a 5 lb weight.

Yeah if you're going necklace route then life alert would be a good choice.

Do you want to spend $30 or $200?

You didn't give a budget.
Benchmade Bugout is a favorite of mine. Not very expensive.

Have a CRKT CEO that I really like. They have a micro version if you think the length might be too much. Which is understandable.

I have one of these. Awesome little knife, and the torsion bar open mechanism is very nifty: LINK

Benchmade, microtech, bear and son, I still like an old school case, but it’s best for me to stay away from knives and guns because you can never have too many.

Benchmade Osborne is a good EDC. It's slimmer than what I would usually pick, but that equates to fitting easier in the pocket.

Between 100 and 200 seems reasonable.

Microtech, but they are expensive,

Benchmade griptillian (sp) if they still make it. Expensive but not insane and the locking mechanism is fantastic.
Eta: stuff from spyderco is worth a look too.

Old school Case knives are pretty cool.
Not as sexy as modern folders with locking blades, etc., but if all you want is something to cut open mail/boxes or other minor stuff, "grandad's old knife" is hard to beat.
Just don't be poking/prying with it since the blade doesn't lock.

I’ve had the same Case trapper since I was a kid. Damn good knife. It doesn’t lock, but they make other models that do.
