Florida State University professor abruptly left his $190,000-a-year role after being accused of faking data to make racism seem more common that it is and having six of his research papers retracted

Once again the demand for racism exceeds the supply. Makes one wonder about the accuracy of a lot of these so called academic studies.

If he'd been white he would have been made Provost... Or never been promoted to professor for equity reasons...

Just pick one line to stand in.

The most racist people in this country aren't white. Just saying.

You left out one of the more crucial aspects of how he was caught - during his peer review. Now he's discredited and his unethical work has been retracted. This is a big win IMO.

And the issue in academia - particularly with social sciences and humanities - is that you’re forced to produce work that identifies and addresses issues of race, gender, and class.

If I wanted to stay active in the field of composition, it’s expected I present at conferences. Here’s one of the three criteria from the 2023 CCCC’s conference proposals:

quote:

The proposal is situated in relation to existing scholarship and research in the field, and uplifts and amplifies Black, Indigenous, Asian, Latinx, and other multiply marginalized perspectives. The proposal may also describe how the presenters will learn from other minoritized communities to further their thinking about the topic.

If I needed to get accepted into this conference to get a job, keep my job, or earn a promotion, you tell me what kind of information and argument I need to produce to do so.

Once again, the demand for racism is exponentially higher than the actual supply. Thus, you get shite like this.

Actually, this should make you feel much better about peer reviewed journals that can withstand scrutiny. Obviously when someone started reading and reviewing the work, it did not hold up. That is how the system works. This is why we do blind, peer review of articles. Normal articles have two to three reviewers and it takes months to get an article published.

In my experience, there is always some bad actors or people that make mistakes, but the vast majority of academic writers just want to conduct good research and have their works published.

This is not exactly how it works but I see your point. This concept is only true in small percentage of universities, like R1s. Many R2s and below, there is very little need to publish because they are teaching institutions. Florida State would have want a number of publications, but in my experience quality is stressed over quantity. I know people with 40 year careers that have only been published 100 times over that entire span. That is really only 2 to 3 articles a year and for social science, I could easily due 5 or 6 a year.

Wow, gets paid $190,000 a year to make up lies and stir racial fires.

Must be nice being a Progressive in America in 2023. You need no real skills at all. Just a victim mentality, a proper "identity", and you can thrive just about anywhere with no accomplishments.

190k a year? Wow.

But when called out for faking data, here is the old go to:

quote:

Stewart told administrators that Pickett's claims 'lynched me and my academic character' and said that was particularly significant given that five of his six studies were race-related, and Stewart himself is black.

And that $190k was State tax free so worth more than it would be if "it" worked in most other states.

What's disturbing, other than the fact that "academics" are paid ridiculous sums of money" is that we can no longer trust research. How much grant money would a researcher receive for disputing the efficacy of a Covid shot? (refuse to call it a vaccine since I received the worthless shot and got Covid. My fault since I did not get 8 subsequent boosters)

If he took any federal or state grant money to fund his research, he needs to be charged with fraud and sentenced to jail time.
