Again, it's a safety issue. Speed limit becomes somewhat arbitrary if a slow driver is messing with traffic flow. That's why they ended up putting in "minimum" speed limits on interstates.

It's a simple set up. The only reason you need to be in the left lane is if you're passing someone. Period.

I've driven completely across TX 4 times on I-10 and I can't tell you how infuriating it is. TX drivers are the absolute worst when it comes to left lane cruising. The only exception is the Houston area.

What kills me is driving by them and realizing they are so oblivious to what they're doing. I mean, you can't see in your rear view the line of cars riding your arse because you're doing the same speed as the person next to you in the right lane, allowing no one to get by?

Speaking as someone who has paid a LOT of speeding tickets, you have no idea what you are talking about. I'm just discussing this concept. But I cannot fathom giving a too slow ticket to someone driving the speed limit. At that point it becomes a damned if you and damned if you don't scenario. I.e. An unconstitutional criminal law.

It's not your job to police the left lane by going the speed limit. That's for police officers. Keep right is the law of the land most places, if you are blocking the flow of traffic even if that traffic is speeding you are also breaking the law. You are no better than the speeder. If you are passing, all is forgiven.

Texas drivers scare the hell out of me. I used to think Georgia drivers were the most reckless drivers on the road before I drove in Texas for the first time. Texans are fricking crazy on the road.

The worst offenders are 18-wheelers. Many of them are governed down to a max speed of 65-70 mph. So you get one in the right line doing 65 mph and the a-hole being him in the other semi is doing 65.1 mph and decides to pass him. I've sat behind these assholes for 10 minutes as they creep by the other one. It's infuriating.

Living in Texas now and working in our customers office. Had a customer make a statement about how people from Louisiana drive in the left lane. I typically do not "argue" anything since it's a customer, but I had to stand up to that one. I make the Texas to NOLA trip often and my lord, Texas people have no idea how to get over.

I have watched Texas Cops get right up behind people cruising in the left lane and tailgate them. If they don't get over, they'll flash their lights and pull them over. Kinda cool that they actually give them a chance to realize they are screwing up (we all lose track sometimes and don't realize we need to get over), but most of them still don't get over and end up with a ticket.

What about the mindless idiots that drive in the left lane going 5-10mph under the speed limit and are too damned oblivious to get out of the way or speed up cause they are on their cell phones?

I'm pretty sure this is what the article is talking about

No, it isn't. The patrolman's quote about "at least when you're speeding, you're focused" proves that.

Speed limits aren't just there to give you tickets. The design of safe grading, curves, crowning, lengths of ramps etc etc etc, basically the entire transportation system(rail and road) is dependent on speed limits(with safety factors of course).

ETA: i hate slow left lane drivers as much as the next guy, this comment was just directed at people saying to do away with speed limits altogether... dat be dumb

We need this so bad. Every time I am on 10 between St. John Parish and New Orleans I can guarantee if there is some a-hole holding up the left lane they have MS tags on the back of their car. Getting a drivers license in MS must be as easy as getting a library card. My middle finger has gotten so much stronger since I started my new route on 10.

I did this once years ago. The guy sped ahead of me, pulled off on the side of the road, got out and started grabbing his nuts and motioning me to pull over.

People are too crazy to ever need to deal with that. I just cuss them out to myself.

It's against the law here, but cops only use it when they want to pull someone over for something else

I think it should be mandatory that left hand lane campers get their tires shot out.

And with this single, courageous act, Florida becomes the greatest state in the Union.

Yea if you would have waved back at him with your pistol he would have gotten his arse back in his car.

frick that passive aggressive shite I got a bad case of road rage. If it is an elderly person I just let it go, but if it is some dumb arse texting or looking out at the lake while the cruise the left lane I make it a point for them to know I hate their fricking guts.

If I had a superpower, it would to make a hand appear out of these drivers dashboard and smack them across the face.

Not even kidding. I've thought about this a lot.
