Flashing yellow doesn’t stop. Just speeds through. The cross traffic has flashing reds. And they have to stop.

Flashing yellow does not mean “speed through”. It means proceed with caution. In other words slow down and make sure the cross traffic is actually going to stop at their flashing red. The car with the flashing yellow should not stop in normal circumstances but should be prepared to do so. It’s hard to be prepared to do so if you are speeding through at a normal speed.

If you wanna play semantics, you’re always supposed to proceed with caution.

Just driving down a road you should be prepared to stop should someone pull out in front of you. All the yellow light is there is to say “hey this is an intersection that has a little more cross traffic than normal, but not enough to justify an actual light sequence”

We are talking about 2 different situations. You are talking about a permanent flashing yellow/red light intersection. I was talking about a red/yellow/green stoplight which is not operating properly and one side is flashing yellow and the other is flashing red. That’s the scenario where extra caution is warranted because it is out of the ordinary for that intersection.

I’ll settle for a “we’re both right” and a handshake

But yeah. Two different situations. Although I’m pretty sure when a light goes out like that, it turns into a 4 way red not a yellow/red combo.

It may

Flashing yellow means caution which at least should be a Missouri rolling stop.
(where you slow down and almost stop to verify the caution, and proceed if clear)
