Guy was absolutely unprepared. He might think he's doing the lord's work herping on social media, but he's walking in their environment with no protection on the lower part of his legs, which are the most probable area of envenomation by a snake.

Those 10 minutes I struggle with my old lace-up snake boots are worth it every time.

What else are they supposed to do to survive? These stupid arrogant kids should be a little more prepared knowing they are in the snake’s habitat.

I'll kill every single one i see, the moment I see it for the rest of my life. Unfortunately that won't be enough to wipe out the entire species.

Why knowingly exaggerate to try to make an invalid point when it’s obviously more like 30 seconds, which is irrelevant?

Are people here assuming he doesn’t have insurance or on his parents insurance?

He will pay his out of pocket max and be done with it. Who cares if the bill is 1 billion

And even if he has zero insurance he won’t lag within a galaxy of that the actual bill is

I have two pairs of snake boots and wear them when hunting. One pair for East Texas/LA for when it’s wet and Chip’s for South Texas and the Hill Country. The Chip’s or really comfortable and slide on and off instead of having to lace them up.

If you’re outdoors a lot I would use this as a reminder to get a pair of snake boots if you don’t have any.

I have killed my share of rattlers, moccasins and copperheads, over the years from hunting and fishing. Enough to know that before I get down on hands and knees to reach in under my landscaping shrubs, flowers and bushes, to stir things around with a small garden rake before I reach in with my hands. I live in a culdesac but the house across from me is on a hill of creek bed and we get regular yard visits from all manner of critters coming up out of that creek. I killed a timber rattler that was sunning itself on a rock retaining wall in my front yard last year. Wasn't real big, about 3' long but it was big enough. About 5 years ago my wife video'd one in the backyard that climbed our 6' tall cedar fence. The head went over the top of the fence and the rattler was still touching the ground. That was creepy. After that I spent a lot of time clearing the backyard of any possible honey hole locations they could get into, but I still check around before doing any yardwork where I need to get into the bushes.

Is this the style that you wear?

My last couple trips to West Texas I wore my 17” Irish Setter hunting boots, but they are really my swamp boots. Looking for something more suitable for the rocky/dessert terrain of West Texas for the coming year.

…btw here’s my thread on my top 24 catches of 2024 if any of you snake lovers are interested.

This is the one I nearly stepped on at the start of my September trip to West Texas. Was walking while shining the cut so I was looking to the side, then heard rattling and movement at my feet. Thankfully he was very docile! Found 84 rattlesnakes that week!

Not quite as docile as this one that David caught though…

I wear the round toe but pretty much. I wear them all day to work and hunt in and they are comfortable as heck.

Got a pair of the lacrosse rubber snake boots for more wet environments.

I bought a storage unit a while back because it had an aluminum fascia break I wanted and there was a pair of those in there. I looked them up and had no idea those boots were that expensive
