The student, who has been publicly identified only by his first name, Nathan, was punished by East Ridge Elementary for being overly affectionate. The school even filed a report with the state.

The school claims that he was overstepping boundaries, but his family argues that his autism makes it difficult for him to understand social cues.

“I was sick to my stomach,” Putnam said. “The teacher called me and she said, ‘You need to have a talk with Nathan about boundaries.'”

The teacher accused her son of “sexual activities” over the hugs and kiss on the cheek.

Tim Hensley, a spokesperson for the Hamilton County Department of Education, is standing by their decision.

“School personnel are required to concerns regarding children to the Department of Child Services (DCS). It’s up to DCS to determine if those reports are acted on by DCS and what form those actions may take,” Hensley told WJLA.

Nathan has now been switched to another class and is enrolled in special education services.

quote:

“He shouldn’t be treated like this. The kid doesn’t even understand what sex is.”

But if he were a five year old Tranny he(?) would be celebrated as a hero.

He probably gets a lot of hugs and cheek kisses from his family, and thinks that's how you are supposed to treat people. School administrations, JFC.

I'm happy to see the administrators of East Ridge Elementary in Hamilton county, TN are going the extra mile to insure that they are providing a safe, comfortable environment for children to learn. Even though they clearly have many issues on their plate in regards to the many students in their charge, they still find the time to address every major issue in front of them. The school is much safer for their efforts and due diligence.

It's everyone's fault. It's the fault of decent people for not fighting back against all this stuff. Liberals are winning bc they are far more active.

Closer to home. My kid went to a preschool in the Baton Rouge area. Right before they went to public school we had all these papers come home and talk about hugging . Like public schools would have a problem with it. My daughter hugs every friend and family member. They wanted to reduce that. WTF

Flash forward and it’s all fine. Never even came up in Ascension Parish public school. But we did have to tell her to stop slapping people in the arse when they bent over.

While this departs from common sense to a degree, when it comes to enforcing rules against inappropriate touching you have to look at the conduct objectively. If “intent” mattered, then there would be all sorts of room for arguments that the perpetrator wasn’t meaning to do harm.

If someone is repeatedly touching others in an inappropriate manner, the rules against that have to apply. If the child is incapable of following those rules, they should not be in that class.

Think of your daughter coming home from school and complaining about a boy in the class that keeps strongly hugging her and kissing her without her consent. While you would have empathy for the boy and his family, you also want to know that the rules against such conduct are being enforced.

Great job at protecting the student's identity.

I totally agree with this, but the major problem is that hard working people like myself have too much to lose if we pick a fight with someone and they go to our employer or make a public issue out of it. Like I said, I totally support what you’re saying, but I have too much to lose if I pick a fight with someone that likely will never see my side of the debate anyway.

What? I'm getting downvoted?
Are you people not appreciative of the admins of East Ridge Elementary in Hamilton County, TN tackling a serious problem such as a 5 year old challenged sex offender head on? I for one am grateful that they moved this issue to the top of their crowded to-do list. We can't have children's safety and well being threatened like this. They are clearly willing to make the hard choices that most of you are not.
