Planning ought to be on 20 year basis, but with one rain storm interest fades away. Oddly enough, there are multiple places on the internet that say Corpus will be underwater in the next 50 years.

well superman, Exxon's partner in that Corpus Ethylene plant is SABIC, Saudi Arabian basic industries. I was the utility manager for Sabic's first ethylene plant built in a complete desert 40 years ago. We used no evaporative cooling, used fin fans for turbine exhaust condensing and wasted no water.
Local incompetence drove pricing water for almost free, which then drove the billion dollar corporation to optimize design based on low capital/high water use.
Do you get Exxon's press releases regards sustainability being a guiding principle?

It hasn’t been put to a vote.
Fact is, our city council is full of shitheads who refuse to work together. Right now, five members of council are trying to oust the mayor. These same council members are all about lining their own pockets.
Desal is a hot button issue because of location and impact on fishing industry. Our city council has squandered millions earmarked for the project that the federal and state governments would provide. But they kick the can on down and will not make a decision. All the while the refineries are paying less than citizens for water and are not on the same restrictions.

Wut? Coastal erosion isn’t really a thing here. Corpus is also not below sea level.

since you apparently worked in the oil field, did you ever notice the room sized boxes with piping and fans, associated with compressor stations. Those are air exchangers for heat removal.

Nueces river is the historical Corpus Water supply and has not flowed into the Gulf for several years
