If the situation was dire enough, any country with the capability to deploy would do so. Countries that have them have them for a reason.

Nuclear weapons would have great value as terrorist weapons, but smart weapons are far better for purely military objectives.

We talking tactical, strategic, or other nukes? Makes a difference. We have nuclear tipped torpedos that will break the back of a carrier but are no means city killers much less globally relevant.

Worst things we have built to date.

No world leader would ever use a nuke. It will only happen when a terrorist state in the Middle East gets nukes. And that probably will happen one day in the future

Fun fact: Nixon once drunkenly ordered a nuclear strike on North Korea, only for Henry Kissinger to stop the order and wait for him to awaken sober the next morning.

Wrong... haven't been used in many many years. Closest you're going to see are nuclear tomahawks, but still not practical

Okay. Point remains that not all nukes are city killers as we typically think.

I really believe, in the right situation that ignorant bastard would do it just so he be the first president since WWII to drop a nuclear bomb.

I think South Africa had one but they got rid of it. Not totally read up on that story. But I'd bet money Japan, Ukraine, and MAYBE Germany have the parts disassembled but ready to put together quickly if the need comes.

South Africa is the only country to have nuclear weapons and give them up. Granted they only had about 6.
Your list is correct and I think that it is in the order that each country gained nuclear weapons too. I know the top 5 are right and are the only countries that "legally" have them
And as for everybody saying "nobody would use nuclear weapons unless they were in a really bad spot", the only way the countries are gonna be in "a really bad spot" is if another country uses nuclear weapons against them.
Nuclear weapons are the reason WWIII and any other direct major conflicts between states with hasn't happened. The only case of this happening is between India and Pakistan in the late 70s iirc and it was brief and neither country had significant nuclear capabilities.

Shouldn't ever be an option, unless ok with a much quicker demise of earth. We would never have a reason to use nukes against North Korea.

North Korea
What nuclear weapons does North Korea have
quote:
The Washington-based Institute for Science and international Security estimated last year that North Korea had 10 to 16 nuclear weapons at the end of 2014. This was based on analysis of the country’s production of weapons-grade uranium and plutonium recovered from spent nuclear fuel. Revised estimates mean that the total could now be between 13 and 21, and the country is also believed to have four warheads.
