First strike using a nuke

Any current world leader crazy enough to do it? What would it take for the US to do it? If the president ordered a strike, would the chain of command comply?

He didn't mean first strike on a historical sense, he meant the first to fire a nuclear shot in a modern nuclear war. Countries keep first strike weapons and MAD style weapons. Especially up to the mud Cold War, the requirements for both resulted in them bring entirely different missiles.

No world leader would do it. Contrary to popular opinion, even Little Kim isn't that crazy.
The biggest concern is that a rouge nutcase aloha snackbar type could set off an archaic form of an atomic weapon - it wouldn't go nuclear but it would spread a shite ton of radioactive material. (Those weapons are FAR more complex than most people think.)

Little piggy in NK is probably the only one who would... maybe Rouhani in Iran, if they had one, but I doubt it
As for the US... we got a lot of other cool toys to play with, and I seriously doubt any President would order a strike of that nature, unless it was of an extremely serious nature i.e. WWIII and we're about to lose

Firing a first strike nuke at a nation that has a second strike capability (i.e. Submarine launched ballistic misses) would be suicide. That's what Second Strike is meant for, to deter a first strike.

Kim would never launch first. Even as dumb as he is, he's smart enough to know not to launch. He just wants the capability to think he's relevant. But, out of all people, I think NK would launch first, probably by error, and we would decimate them with a west coast boomer
