First semester in college we (group of friends in HS) securely were challenged and felt "smarter" from having to think in different ways.
Interesting you say math, because we also felt it was jumping straight into Calc with no prior exposure that did it. Had to do homework galore to keep up.
But my point is that if your curriculum isn't giving you at least some adversity, you are selling yourself short. At least earnestly try for a full semester or two man.

Nut up ... quit asking a message board for obvious answers ...mental perseverance isn't some exotic trait unique to just a few ...

the first semester in college is similar to what you mention for most of us...most get a little homesick from time to time as well.
fwiw, I spent the whole rest of my college career trying to bring up the damage that I did the first semester or two...the more fun you have now, the more misery that you have to suffer later to recoup from it.

I wish I was going to Bama. I'm staying home and going to South Alabama to save money (obviously not an OT baller). The only thing I miss about HS is some of my friends.

USA is solid and Mobile is a pretty good city, though I can't say I'm terribly familiar. Staying at home makes it tougher (but it's a very, very wise choice IMO), but you can still have a lot of fun. I don't know y'alls rush schedule, but you really should try it out in the spring. You'll find some folks you really mesh with, trust me.

trust me, that is a very wise decision...better GPA and less student loan debt when it is all said and done. to top it off, the only thing that matters is the university on your diploma when you graduate, so attending USA will not adversely affect the value of your degree at all.

I had so much fun my 1st semester(Fall '93, I kept the party going for the next 2 semesters...till I got kicked out. Back in school now, set to graduate next semester. Don't take the "to be continued" path like me. Have fun, but know when to tighten your shite up young man.

It's non specialized (with some exceptions, you'd really have to be more specific) and there a metric frick ton of people with that degree.
I'm working as a bartender right now while going through law school. All but one person I work with has a degree from Bama. They're either liberal arts or non-specialized business majors.
It's easier, I know. It would make your time in college much more fun. You will regret it later, though. Don't do it. Bust your arse for 4 years so you can slap your OT baller dick on everyone else for the next 40.

I took the easy way out. Went to brcc the first year. Carried a 4.0 while never going to class and getting hammered at least 4x a week. Best decision I've made so far.
