First NHRA Event

Finally got to attend one in person and all I've got to say is holy cow. TV does these machines no justice. We were fortunate enough to get within a few yards of the starting line and just to feel the sound wave percussion in your whole body crazy. Can't remember the driver but they set a track record...ran 3.80 something at 340mph.

Rookie numbers, gotta get them up.

It’s a wild experience. I always recommend people do three things: get as close to the start line as possible for a launch, go down to the traps to see what 300+ mph really looks like and watch a rebuild in the pits.

Give me corners or give me death.

Went to the races in Denver, or Morrison specifically several years ago. We had been to a couple at different locations. But this one topped all of them. The track was in the valley between the mountains. You talk about vibrating the body. It was called thunder in the valley for a reason. Sadly they closed the track a couple of years ago to make a subdivision or something.

I’d like to see it but not all day. After an hour or so I’d be ready to go. Maybe they can make per hour tickets.

Supercharged Nitromethane

Been telling this for years. No way to appreciate the raw power of these cars without seeing it up close and personal. Best indoctrination is watching warm ups in the pits and getting throttle whacks and a sniff of nitro fumes. And the pressure waves from a run are startling

Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia was headed for the same date, but the IHRA convinced the town council to allow them to buy it and continue to use as a drag strip. I doubt NHRA returns though, which is a shame. The Southern Nationals were a crown jewel of the NHRA circuit at one time.

Went to Erwinville to watch the races multiple times as a yute. Loved it.
