My wife’s family use to have a bunch of fireworks stands before getting bought out. A lot of greased pockets in that business

Never owned one but did work at one for a few seasons. Best money I ever made working part time. I assumed the owners were raking it in.

One summer in college, I worked for a fireworks company. Worst summer job ever unloading 18 wheelers placing the product in the warehouse leading up to the 4th then a few weeks prior, we would go out and set up the tents. What this group would do is lease the tent out to a family who would basically be there 24/7 for a couple wks doing all the sales. Some would even park a travel trailer next to the tent. Then after the 4th, we count the left over inventory and it would get put back into the warehouse. They were only charged for the product they sold. I’m not sure if the people who ran the tents had to bid or pay for the right to sell or if they got to pick which location they’d have. I probably set up about 20-30 tents that summer.

Many distributors allow selling on consignment. They actually pick up what you don’t sell.

Because sales are typically 20X-30X markup

I have two good friends whose family has been in the business for years and years.

These guys import directly from Chi-na.

One stand is on Lake Tawakoni in northeast Texas.

One is on lake Levon.

Two are on Cedar Creek Lake .

I worked selling for them up until about 10 years ago. Some of the best people experiences and sales experience you can get.

$100k vehicle would buy $15 worth of fireworks.
El camino would buy $3,000.00

These guys would sell $750k of fireworks during the 4th.

Profit margin probably 600/700%.

They would staff each stand with a uniformed state trooper on the 2-4.

It’s a nice bonus for them as they now have coaches and students running the stands.

Good business do be in if you have the location. Lakes are key!

I looked into it. I was going to do it with a friend, but thankfully it didn't work out.

If you do it. Keep it simple and go small the first time. Learn from that experience, then decide if you want to do it again.

It's more involved than most folks think.

What about whistlin' bungholes, spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker don'ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistlin' kitty chaser?
