Move to Germantown , TN. We don’t have crime at all. Police presence is huge. Plenty of jobs and our taxes go to all the public parks here. Good roads , great schools, good BBQ , a good basketball team and the Memphis Redbirds as well

This is what I don’t get. Y’all complain about cities and crime. And Memphis has crime. But you still go to those cities (Redbirds) as part of your entertainment/fun.

Everyone loves to whine about NOLA, but y’all still like the Saints, the airport, the food, the quarter, LSU playing in the dome, etc.

Where is your job offer in Houston? I’m guessing Pasadena/Deer Park area?

I’d move to Huntsville, it’s the largest city in the Deep South with a positive demographic skew.

that's kind of what i was getting at in my post, but at least you get a different climate up there.

if you're moving there for a big career upgrade, i completely get it. otherwise, i'm going somewhere completely different if i'm leaving louisiana. houston, memphis, atlanta, dallas, jville, etc. are too similar (in the bad way) for me personally.

People who see potential in BR are chronically lying to themselves.

Baton Rouge has lots of potential, but they would have to elect a mayor with balls. National Guard on every street corner and stop and frisk until the judges get the point or the crime decides it's too much of a hassle and just leaves. A decent governor would help, and school choice in the interim until the school system can adequately operate on it's own.

Not living there and going in and out and enjoying where your tax dollars are spent is not the same as living there watching your tax dollars be pissed away.

What you described is the exact allure of places like Germantown or say The Northshore in La.

You can live close enough to take what you want but you don't have to deal with all the bullshite and you can easily avoid most of the shite you don't.

Good luck. With the scarcity of housing you will need it. Hell, there are bidding wars and all cash offers in “so-so” neighborhoods in Baton Rouge.

Not saying you have to live there, but the amount of whining about NOLA on this board is pathetic. These guys whine about it and then go to the LSU Championship game and have a blast. Then come back here to complain.

Look, I get it. The last dollar I spent in Orleans parish was the start end of the 3rd quarter of the natty vs Clemson on a double Titos and water. I live like 50 minutes from the dome and the city is still a shithole.

Will I be there when LSU plays FSU? Damn right I will.

I'll be tailgating on my patio and a car service will bring me to and from. Everything I can do to NOT spend money in that city I will but there are sometimes my love for one thing will supersede my dislike for something else.

ETA - I guess what I don't understand is what you don't understand. Not wanting to live somewhere doesn't mean you can't like anything or anyone that place produces.

I'll second Memphis burbs. Been here for 10 years. My fam is from NE Mississippi so I'm partial to staying a couple hours from them cause they old. but there are quite a few of LSU fans here. Went to a boil last weekend. Put on by some folks that were originally from LA. Memphis has its problems but there are multiple fortune 500 companies here. The airport has a decent amount of direct flights. Hospitals are good. Housing is reasonable. There are good public schools in collierville and in DeSoto county/Hernando. Fishing is decent at Enid and arkabutla. Mountains in Arkansas are 3 hours away. Pickwick is hour and a half (big lake). It can be a little clickish if you are younger.

Once you figure out where to go and where not to go it's a good bang for your buck. I flew to Denver last year round trip for 40 bucks.
