Get your Safeco agent to send a letter of experience to you and OMV.

The criminal standard is (IANAL) that the state has to prove your guilt. Civil fines are the easy way to go these days. You're presumed guilty until you prove otherwise.

That's a serious societal problem that means more than most think it does.

Just dealt with a similar situation. I had to contact our state representative and they were able to help me get it taken care of. It took about a week after they had contacted the OMV

Suck it up and pay. Got stuck with it years ago… had cancellation letter that came in over Christmas holidays and I did not see it until three days after it canceled. Bought insurance that day, but the three day gap was inexcusable and cost me 1000 bucks.

They robbed you.

They are the jury that decides if they are right. They will rule that they are right and you will have wasted hours trying to fight them.

You cannot fight incompetent bureaucrats. Meanwhile, their friends and family will get off scott free.

Had a friend that had this happened too. He finally got it resolved. But, he was advised that if this happened to others, they should send copies, certified mail, of ALL correspondence to the governor, Lt. governor, AG, etc. That way, if the lowly OMV workers screw up, you can always include the folks you copied as material witnesses. You would be surprised how fast things get cleared up !

You moved out of state.

You are trying to do the right thing.

They are treating you like an a-hole.

Only lesson to learn is: stop trying.

Homer their asses:

I love how half the state drives around uninsured but people who actually have it are forced to deal with this bullshite.

I fought that for years, end up having to tuck my tail between my legs and pay up because I needed the flag off my license

Try calling your new insurance agent. There’s some kind of form that they can send to show an overlap in your insurance coverages so you can prove that you were good at the time

This, and you're going to have to go in person. Been there, done that.

Wait so if you move out of state you owe LA money because you don’t carry insurance there anymore? What?

Find a good title place like ABC title in Metairie for example. I has the same issue and they had access to all the the databases and were able to help to some degree (had multiple issues from my daughter (no pics)moving to Texas.

I actually had her car insured in Louisiana and Texas at the same time and LA picked it up as a lapse and I had to pay a fine. So I paid for two insurance policies and a fine for not having insurance. frick this place.

I just went through the exact same thing. All the way to the Dept. of Revenue threat. I wouldn’t pay but that’s just me. It took two years but I FINALLY got to speak to the lady in charge and she wiped it clean. She said the system is slow and they just got funding to have it catch up and it’s going to take a while. I kept all documentation as backup.
How many times have you submitted it through the expresslane.org system? They will NOT pick up the phone. Sorry, I haven’t read through the entire thread. Just wanted to give you my experience.

Where did you go? I was told that in person DMV employees won’t deal with reinstatements. I went in to two different location and they both told me no. With their usual shitty attitudes. I kept all of the emails and documents that I had sent in finally got in touch with Ms. St. Germaine and she took care of it.
