I’ll guarantee no employees of CNN and ESPN will be attending casually as well. All hypocrites

Women's professional sports are generally hard to watch. Why? We know something infinitely better is available.

Average attendance in South Africa for men’s back in 2010, 50,000 for 64 games.
Average attendance for Qatar, where you can’t drink, 53000.

Equal pay is the right thing to do.

So a New Zealander sitting in their den, watching a Women’s WC game with their entire family on their television while drinking a cold beverage that doesn’t cost them $12 a pop is ‘the wrong thing’ ?!??!!

Those two nations are crazy about rugby. Soccer not so much, esp NZ.

New Zealand and Australia are terrible host countries. They are literally in the middle of nowhere for the majority of the world.

I hear there's a decent amount of people in Southeast Asia.

Rugby is literally the national sport of New Zealand and probably the second biggest sport in Australia with cricket.

Not the same thing.

Just saying, if FIFA will pay to fly me there and put me up in a hotel, I'll go. I'll even act like I'm enjoying the World Cup.

Come on FIFA. my support is for sale here. Quid pro quo.

I'd do it - if they threw in a red stag hunt, including a means to get the rack and meat back home.

Maybe women should buy more tickets to women's sports?

Shouldn't this be completely demeaning to women? Why is it "the right thing" to come watch? It's basically admitting the product isn't attractive but force yourselves to come and bear it anyway so you won't hurt these little ladies' feelings

We get enough of that reasoning watching relatives-children play sports at which they don't excel.

Yes, I believe lack of interest is a problem. However, I think demographics and location are bigger contributors because they limit the "tourist fans". Australia / NZ costly to get to and in country travel is pretty significant as well. Tend to forget how big those islands are and with the distances between venues I would think spectators would pick a venue and not "hop" to see other Groups. So I think FIFA would have had to consider how many Aussies and Kiwis would want to watch other countries teams and use that number as an attendance base. I guess I just don't understand why they are treating this like its a big deal. Had to see it coming.
