There is not much sense in marriage without kids.

Is that why some divorce after the kids moved out?

Grandkids can keep people together, but yes..the empty nest is a time of change.

Research shows that divorce risk generally increases during times of major life changes and stress, which can include the empty nest period.

The entire leftist platform is to decouple people from traditional roles.

This is absolutely true. The average cost of raising a child from birth to 17 years of age has only risen about 16% after adjusting for inflation. That is not what is causing people to wait until later to have children, which is what is driving the fall in fertility rate(which is what this thread was originally about).

Do you want me to trend Mercedes prices to show their increase?

Then argue that Mercedes used to be cheap.

i never argued that kids were ever cheap. They are just more expensive now than ever partly due to childcare drastically outpacing wages.

add in failing public schools, rising house prices, and skyrocketing college tuition and it's plain to see that this is largely economic

Right.

Its just the continuation of the drive to appease the self which has been put on hyperdrive over the past 20 years.

People are being divided from traditional institutions such as being a parent, which is basically our source of meaning on this planet.

The Depression had a powerful impact on family life. It forced couples to delay marriage and drove the birthrate below the replacement level for the first time in American history. The divorce rate fell, for the simple reason that many couples could not afford to maintain separate households or pay legal fees. But rates of desertion soared. By 1940, 1.5 million married women were living apart from their husbands. More than 200,000 vagrant children wandered the country as a result of the breakup of their families.

All those people during the depression were selfish and just didn't want to work hard. They wanted their fancy Model T instead of raising kids

Children having children has led to some of the shittiest people on the planet. It's probably a good idea to at least wait until you pay for your own cell phone plan before becoming responsible for the growth of another human being

Wife (no pics) and I are mid-30s and just had our first heading into year 9 of our marriage. We're very comfortable financially as well as mentally and I couldn't imagine having a kid at any other stage in our lives. If it were safe to have kids into our 40s, we'd probably have 4 or 5, but we'll likely be halted at 2 or 3.

Not posted to anyone in particular, but there are tons of similar posts about wanting a bigger house, better job, wanting to be able to afford things for your kids, etc. Your're not all wrong, but this is a complete change of thinking from 40+ years ago.

Kids used to share bedrooms. People ate cheap food at home instead of going out. Kids didn't play travel ball. :) People didn't take huge vacations. Every kid didn't need a phone or over 40 years ago, a car. I could go on and on with the changes in expectations of society today.

Pretty much everyone who has means has a different attitude of what their life should be like and what their standard of living should be. That horse isn't going back in the barn.

The problem is that all the uneducated people with no means just have kids at will and give no thought to what their lives will be like. These folks don't care whether they have anything or not, etc.

I think the educated among us with disposable income have so many things they can do, that just having sex isn't always the top of the list. These folks are busy doing all kids of stuff. They can afford birth control and don't want anything (kids) cramping the lifestyle they like. They also have will power and self control, traits not always exhibited by the less educated and poorer folks. Also, because the educated wait, the chances of them conceiving at all are much lower. My kids are in their 30s. Many of their friends are married with 1-2 kids, as is my son. The only of their friends who had kids when they were 25 or younger got pregnant by accident.

We have created our own version of Idiocracy, the movie.

All these women want to travel the world, have kids, a never ending burning ambition from a man and then settle down and have a dog farm.

This is stupid. Only shallow males and females worry about possessions. No wonder the world is fricked up.

If you have two men and one has a lifted truck, which one do you think women consider a better prospect? Just how it is

If there’s two men and one lives in BFE and one lives near everything downtown?

If there’s two men and one has an inheritance coming?

Women being materialistic doesn’t make them shitty, it makes them women
