Have you driven I-10 across the Sabine in Texas in the last 30 years?

I am referring to loops.

Yes, that stretch of I-10 blows hard, although last I drove it, they were actually working on it.

They've been working on the areas with similar topography for 30 years

Gotcha.

The worst roads and road construction I’ve ever encountered in the US has been in Texas.

Also some of the best and most well-maintained. A lot of folks don’t get how fricking huge that state is.

The only way that works is if they were to run 4-5 ferries at a time, like they do on the Galveston Ferry, but I don't think river traffic would allow for that.

I think the state needs to invest in a plan for cross country traffic to take (headed westbound) 12 to 61 to 190 across the old bridge to 1 back to 10.

Westbound 1 South to the Sunshine Bridge and back to 10, again with traffic control improvements and officers to help move traffic along.

Offer the truckers some kind of incentive to make up for additional fuel used, perhaps a rebate of state fuel excise taxes up to a certain amount.

Invest in updating light sequencing and possibly even traffic control officers during certain parts of each day to keep the trafic moving.

If you can make a serious effort to get a major number of trucks off that portion of I-10 completely, it might be as terrible. But that's going to be hard to do.

IIRC, Dunham not only got the contract but also had it specified that the city use an odd gauge of pipe not intended for this use, which caused a ton of issues over the year.

Can they stand up a floating dock at Port Allen that fast?

Wonder if they can have a ferry run from Plaquemine to downtown or from Port Allen to downtown. At least to get some traffic off I-10.

was at one of the public meetings for the project at the Main Library several months ago and heard that they may look at a way to getting truckers informed to take alternate routes if their travels take them through BR.

If they use Waze….they are already getting routed on US 190 during some times of day.

Not sure if the US 190 bridge can legitimately handle that much extra traffic. It’s a fairly narrow 4 lane bridge and the LA1 approach is only one lane. And there is a rail crossing on the Baton Rouge side that DOTD decided would remain at-grade. Because Louisiana…

How about charging them a big friggin toll if they don't take an alternate route? We should be charging truckers a toll to drive thru BR during daylight hours right now.

I-10 is a major thoroughfare.

The state will frick this up so badly, the feds will likely get involved.

You can’t essentially shutdown a major interstate because your state is too moronic to build a loop.

Feds: Yea you cant just frick up country wide commerce because your too stupid to build a loop.

Louisiana: Sorry not enough money (lolz)

Feds: Here's a check

Yep. I know everyone shite on c on z b/c it's him but this idea that truckers will be 'encouraged' to bypass Baton Rouge all together won't be all that unrealistic for a year or two.

From Houston to Atlanta it's not that big a deal to bypass a city that you can expect to spend an hour getting through anyhow. Granted some hazardous cargo and other shite headed to Jacksonville/South Florida will likely come through Baton Rouge. But most trucks can take the 806 mile route from Houston to Atlanta and cost them a whole 13 miles and 45 minutes which would probably be better than sitting in BR Traffic during that time.

The OT is pretty retarded sometimes.

Most trucks are picking up loads heading east and west.

Not to mention, from St francisville to 42 to denham is roughly 660000 people. Do you have any idea of the amount of resources trucked in to keep that area fed, clothed, fueled, and able to buy useless shite?

Yes I do. This idea to help reduce vehicles on I-10 is specifically talking about trucks going THROUGH Baton Rouge. Don't you move the goalposts here, buddy.

Here is the solution to this madness.
Park one of your cars on the levee in Port Allen .
Have another car in BR with a bateau.
Drive and park at the levee by the casino and take your bateau across the river to Port Allen to your other car .
Reverse the process going back home to BR.
