Steve Carter (RIP) tried to introduce a bill that would have precluded 18 wheelers for using the bridge between 6 AM and 6 PM, IIRC. It got shot down immediately, all the trial lawyers, including the shyster in the Governor’s office like those big rigs whacking cars, those billboards and TV commercials don’t pay for themselves.

I'm not moving the goal posts.

I just think if the Mississippi River Levee has broken, you shouldn't really concern yourself if your hose is running in the yard.

The semi and passenger traffic into and out of Baton Rouge dwarfs the traffic simply passing through.

As it does for every major city.

I don't know how people in leadership positions in LA aren't embarrassed of themselves for just how stupid they are. The fact that a loop around this city has never been built or can even get off the ground is a testament to just how incompetent everyone around here is. Wouldn't oppose the federal government forcing these fatass good ole baws out of the way and building one.

I would say it has more to do with the fact that the infrastructure would be routed through wetlands.

And if you looked at the total amount of infrastructure with that sort of environmental impact built pre-1960 versus now, new projects wouldn't even amount to 1%.

While that stretch is horrible, when they are finally finished in another 2 years, every inch of interstate from the tollway in Houston (including the tollway itself), to the state line will have gone thru a committee, planned, engineered, demo completed, road bed widened and new road constructed, including feeder roads in the metro areas.

They will have gone over the northern shoreline of Galveston Bay, numerous navigable rivers (including the Trinity and Sabine), and rebuilt 8 miles of interstate thru a medium sized (ok small) city in Beaumont.

This also includes a major amount of flyover construction at Beltway 8 in Houston, Winnie, and to a lesser extent, Beaumont.

Granted, it will have taken 30 years to do so, but at no time were they down to less than two lanes. Also, that 15 miles from Beaumont to the state line, while being under construction for what feels like the last 20+ goes through an area with the consistency of a thick roux.

Now go back to 1995 and compare that to what has taken place between Lake Charles and BR during that time.

Too busy stacking money they’ve stolen to care about that.

Corruption and political theft is the main reasons things are like they are in LA and why they will never change or improve. The people calling the shots aren’t motivated to do so

My wife worked for the LADOTD for a short time. Apparently, there is a law or rule somewhere where truckers are supposed to take the old bridge during peak traffic times. You all see how well the state enforces that law...

Can you imagine being in one of the planning meetings and some stupid arse gets up and presents “let’s look at having both directions of I10 reduced to one lane each, over a curved inclined flyway” and then see that the idiots plan was approved …, would love to see the faces in that room
