The increase coincides pretty well with the reformulation of oxycontin, which is all I ever saw back in my "dumber" days. Never even saw Fentanyl.

don't any of you think there's an underlying reason that all of a sudden tens of thousands of americans are using opiates? You know, some explanatory factors
Americans didn't just start turning to opiate use in masse because they listened to too much heavy metal or because they took God our of our schools, etc.

That's a crutch.
It's very easy to tell your doc you will not accept an opiate prescription from them. Prescribe something else or I'll just take OTC aleve/aspirin.
It's because dipshits walk out of the docs office all giggly with their oxy script saying "lol doc gave me the good shite"
