His problem, not yours. Since he wanted to be a dumbass and set the fence back 8", he can deal with the problem of figuring out how to keep that 8" of grass cut.

Although that grass probably won't grow much at all because it'll barely get sunlight between an 8" gap in the fences. He may have to spray Round Up a few times per summer, if at all.

Forgot to ask if you're neighbor's neighbors on the other side and behind him have fences and, if so, do they tie into his or are do they have the 8 inch gap between as yours will?

Dude. You're gonna have a hard time in life if you're having such a hard time figuring this out.

Who gives a frick how he's gonna mow his 8 inches between your fence wall and his?

Build your fence on your property lines and that's a wrap. shite.

Look at it this way. If you go ahead and build a new fence along your property by his fence,it will clearly be yours, and will also provide your dog one layer of protection in case he likes to dig out, too.

I have shared fences with neighbors, but there are times I wish I had fences that are all mine. It makes maintenance of them easier for me.

If it provides any consolation to you, here is my thread from last year regarding my crazy bitch of a neighbor who did the same thing.

Why build a new fence just to have 8" of dead space to grow?
Exactly how would you propose he tie in the other fences

You are going to have to pay him if you want his 8 inches. Mikelbr can explain the process.

Build your fence taller than his and right on your property line. Complain to hoa when the gap between the two fences is overgrown.

Also, be loud when you're in the backyard about admiring how superior your fence is. Maybe you could invest in a bullhorn to proclaim your superiority. Bang his wife? Bang him? Whatever floats your boat. Establish dominance.

It's sounds like you both bought houses in a new subdivision. That's a real fricked up neighbor. Just curious, what's the name of the subdivision?

Neighbor behind me and I split cost of a new fence between our properties. Neighbor on the other side of me split cost of a new fence between our properties.

I built a 2' high retaining wall on my property line next to the bitch neighbor. Now, it's a leaf and twig trap for the worms and bugs to work on and eventually chew up her cedar fence pickets. Not my fault that leaves and dirt fall in there when I'm blowing them from my yard. That's just mother nature at work. I'm not obligated to let her yard guy come in to clean it up, either, so tough fricking luck for her.

Did you ask him how he plans to upkeep that 8 inches of property so it's not a jungle?

Probably was banking on OP not putting up a fence.
