I bought my chainsaw in preparation a day before the hurricane. I wonder if I can get reimbursed for it.

FEMA says in order to qualify for reimbursement:

The generator must be purchased or rented due to an event that results in a presidentially declared emergency or major disaster;
The applicant’s dwelling must be located in a declared area designated for individual assistance;
An applicant must provide proof-of-purchase or rental receipts for the generator;
The generator must be needed for a medically required appliance or piece of equipment; and
There must be proof that the appliance or equipment was required for medical purposes

This is stupid. Just a waste of more taxpayer money. Only role the government should play in this is to make sure retailers don’t price gauge during natural disasters.

Wait, so because I bought a generator (to replace the one I had previously bought that wasn’t running right) right before the storm, I get nothing?

Can I buy an 800 generator now and get reimbursed?

Government belies you should take zero personal responsibility and not prepare for anything

This 100%….amazing how many people have no way to support or be responsible for their own lives and well being without the the government’s help. WTH did people do even 25 years ago…I will tell you, they took care of their own selves. The government’s Slow intrusions into their lives and before long they got you around the neck and will choke the life out of you if you step out of line.

That info is a few days old. As I understand it, more details are to come, but FEMA has expanded that coverage as of 9/6
