Am absolutely dreadful decision. If you live in the south, this should piss you off.
Tornado hit my house years ago. A couple FEMA reps showed up a couple days later while we're still without power.
"Hi we're here with FEMA to help you in any way we can."
"ok...well the roof and my car are trashed. Insurance is only going to cover most of it but not all and I live paycheck-to-paycheck. We're running low on gas for the generator and having to rely on others to bring us cooked food"(it was a small generator that could barely run the fridge).
"Well there's nothing we can really do for any of that".
I'm from the South and FEMA is what pisses me off.

I had to help my church with dealing with the FEMA red tape to get reimbursement on roof replacement from Hurricane Ida. The amount of hoops to jump through and the amount of time spent to manage that process was ridiculous. It took almost 2 years to get the reimbursement to go through.
Your church already has a roof?
Mine still has condemned buildings awaiting funding to raze. My kids' school still has tarps on the roof. I'm on a committee dealing with the process for the school, and it's not like they've been sitting around doing nothing since it happened. They're out tens of thousands on mitigation trying to keep it from becoming a total loss while they wait.

If it’s absolutely necessary:
Local govt > federal govt

Give it to the State's National Guard.

I can't wait to see all the posters here cheering for this to lose their houses then blame Biden when they get no relief from FEMA. Love seeing the poor people root for this.
Elections have consequences

But hey, maybe this insurance commissioner will avoid federal indictment
Didn't we just have one who did? I know it is rare in Louisiana

Are they going to fund the disaster relief or is that up to the states too? FEMA sucks so no loss there but are they going to set aside money for diaster relief or is just “good luck mother frickers” I hope your state put away a bunch of money it is a key contested state in a election year. Either way Louisiana is completely fricked now

This will force people out of Louisiana, Florida, and other place, and perhaps that’s a good thing. FEMA is not very active in Illinois.

Great, hurricane clean up and assistance will be run by our state government that can’t govern its way out of a paper bag.
Do you think FEMA was the only group involved after Katrina?
FEMA is under homeland security, so that’s who they answer to.
Plus you had the military, coast guard and EPA.
All the faith based organizations.
Red Cross and other relief organizations.
And on top of all that you had the states response with the help of other states like Florida.
FEMA going away doesnt change any of this.
Oh and companies like Walmart donated a bunch of supplies.

The elinnation of FEMA sounds good on paper until there is a massive disaster and people complain like no other.
If we have learned anything from any politician on either side. They will buckle under this pressure and some sort of FEMA will be reestablished.
People and states are no different, they are not saving for these events, and the people will be screwed.

This is why politicizing governmental entities by the far left was bad. People just want to dismantle it all, which, fair enough.

Nope. This is absolutely the kind of thing that I wanted. FEMA isn't even helpful let alone necessary. Congress can pass aid on an ad-hoc basis easily enough.

could have had built up enough savings to have a deductible on hand
Your deductible is taken off the top of your insurance payment.
Pro-Tip. Over-insure your house by a little bit, total loss will cover your deductible payment and you'll still be able to pay full replacement cost.

I don't think the US military is a model of fiscal efficiency.
There has to be a better plan.

Congress can't do a damn thing "easily enough".
