What was the hardest hit you ever took?
I was OL so I never really took a lot of hard hits.
However, I can tell you the hardest I've ever been on the field for. We were punting, ball is punted, and one of our gunners hits the punt returner about a half-second after he catches the ball. Just absolutely destroys him. Props to the kid from the other kid for hanging onto the ball.
Anyways, both of them are layed out, not moving. Everyone runs over, trainers and coaches run over, etc. After about 45 seconds, both guys eventually start moving and stagger up. We used to call it "getting your bell rung", today I'm sure both guys would have been diagnosed as concussed.
Our guys gets onto the sideline, and the trainers take his jersey off, and the laces on his shoulder pads are completely cut in half across where they lace up... like someone had taken a pair of scissors and cut the 4-5 places where the laces went across the pads.

Hardest I was ever hit was by my own teammate. I was kneeling by the pile when our defensive end dove over and got me square in the chest.

Kickoff in HS. The other team fair caught the ball and ref blew the whistle. Just the got clocked from behind. We had identified and pointed out that this particular player played dirty on kickoffs and punts during film session. I did get him back later on during the game.
Not me but our coach made people who caused problems in school or outside school during football season to run the gauntlet during practice. The offender had to carry the ball and every 10 yards you had someone waiting to tackle them. They couldn’t bend over or anything all the could do was run straight up. It was like form tackling the big blue dummy.

Carnell Williams rang my bell on a kickoff return. It was a short kick so I came up quickly to catch it. He was lower (and faster and stronger)and laid me out before I could even look down and brace for impact. I held onto the ball though. I started to the wrong sideline before somebody else on offense pointed me to the huddle. After lining up wrong for the first play, my day was over.

I was a scout team DE in a HS spring practice scrimmage. Got laid out by a guy who later played fullback at La Tech and had a cup of coffee with the Saints. I opened my eyes and couldn't see anything. I thought I was dead. Probably grounds for a concussion protocol these days but I got up, shook it off and lined up for the next play.

Junior year of HS. I was your typical slow short white WR perennial scout team player as JV all star. We were practicing punt team and for some reason had me in as a protector. I was on the right side of the center, who was one of our coaches doing the snapping. He was going to signal a 1 for a punt or 2 for a fake. First couple of snaps he’s giving 1. Then decides to fake it. Direct snap to me, who is supposed to run around the end. Except the linemen and tight ends didn’t know this and were just blocking straight up. None of them were going to block down and try to seal the edge. This brick house MLB on our team spots the snap and takes off, unblocked directly to the point I was supposed to run. All 5’7” and 155 lbs of me is giving it all I have, only to be met with all 5’10” and 240 of him. I flew about 7 yards. He didn’t tackle me as much as hit me and I landed flat on my back and the ball is gone.
Another one, I was playing scout team WR and it was a deep curl route. My good friend was the DB and we’re about the same size. We both jump for the ball and he comes down with it. Underthrown by a good 2-3 yards and he saw it when the QB let go of it while I was still in my route. Anyways, I get tripped up on his leg while I’m coming down and he barely keeps his feet. I figure the play is over and I’m getting back up. One of our big DEs, who went on to play D1, I see running full speed out of the corner of my eye. Directly at me. I’m about halfway up. On one knee and standing up. He dives and clocked me in the numbers. Then he picks me up laughing and says the play is never over. We end up at the same school in college, ran into him while out one night and we get to talking about high school, and he still remembered clocking me.

6’1” skinny DE with my job being to throw my body at lead blockers running sweeeps to my side. Back in the day “student body right and left” was real. A huge fullback put his face mask right into mine and my teammates said I was walking around like a zombie for about a minute. I was literally out on my feet and did not know what happened. I lasted through 9th and 10th grade before I opted for participation in science fairs instead of the physical punishment of football.

Carnell Williams
My sophomore year, his senior year, we played them in the first or second round of the playoffs. My buddy was like 3rd string QB and was the person protector/safety on punt coverage. We kicked to Caddilac and he breaks out in the open. My buddy was last man between him and the endzone on around the 20 yd line. I remember Cadillac putting his head in my buddy's chin. Absolutely trucked him. He tripped as he stepped on him after he ran him over. Carnell didnt score.
That game was the only game Carnell didnt have a touchdown in his high school career. We give my buddy shite about it to this day and all he says is "Well, he went down didnt he?"

Jordan Mills (currently a starting OT in the NFL) and I played on the same team in high school. I lined up against him every single day at practice and got my shite rocked. One time he hit me so hard on a trap, I thought I died. Great guy though. Always had your back when you needed him.

We had four teams in my remote hometown’s little league, and every year the “Packers” got all the big kids.
I was a runt, but my dad being an asst. coach got dibs on this prototype inflatable-pad helmet that got shipped along with the crappy ones. . So, I’m wearing this giant lid and in for the kickoff.
Feeling like I’ve been given some magic helmet power, I run as fast as I can at an Indian (feather) kid who’s built like a tree stump.
About halfway up the field my big superhelmet comes loose and I’m looking through the ear hole at this oncoming Cherokee. Just as I go to twist it back right, that m’fer trucked me like I wasn’t even there.
You could practically see cartoon bluebirds flying around my head.

I know this sounds silly, but the year before high school during practice. Had this giant white dude just truck me. Saw him coming full speed and kinda just froze. Coach came over laughing asking if I got the number of that bus. Learned to never let that happen again, that shite hurt.
Side story: My Dad was a lineman in high school and got hit so hard it detached one of his retinas. They reattached it, but it degraded over the years so now he only has one eye.

I was a freshman and a scout team TE. JT Wall (went in the play at UGA as a fullback) was playing MLB. Ran a drag route. Scout team QB threw high and I made a leaping catch. JT absolutely fricking destroyed me. Held in the the ball but couldn’t breath for about minute and that was due to the broken rib. I was glad when he graduated and didn’t have to deal with that dude during Oklahoma drills. Worst in game was getting blindsided ok punt coverage. I was seeing stars for a couple of minutes from my helmet bouncing off the ground.

Hardest hit was in the rugby pitch playing with some islanders The first time I ever played tackle, I saw a guy on the other team go down and let the ball go. it was kind of rolling towards me and another guy on their team was headed for it, but I was a little closer. I picked it up like an idiot because I didn’t know enough about the game to know he wasn’t racing me to pick up the ball, but was going to launch himself like a missle over it to clear out anyone dumb enough to try to pick it up. As soon as I got the ball in my hands and was coming up out of the crouch our heads collided. I hadn’t even looked up yet so I didn’t know what happened. I laid there concussed for a little bit then walked off the pitch and watched for a while to figure out why I got run over like a truck doing that. My head was on a swivel from that point on, especially when playing with guys from the South Pacific. They enjoy putting it on white guys.

Ninth grade.
Coach never had me on kickoff return before but decided as the kicker was teeing up the ball that I was in.
He said “just run to the ball and tackle whoever catches it” as I pulled on my helmet and trotted to the line.
The ball was kicked in a nice long arch. I’d not seen our kicker put one high like that before. I ran towards the ball as it descended and I had a clear path to the kid who caught it.
I was then introduced to the blind-side block.
I remember that strange breathtaking feeling of my forward momentum being immediately halted and I saw sky, grass clippings and my feet. I don’t remember the feeling of hitting the ground because I suspect my brain was still processing the fact that I’d taken such a shot.
I heard some ooohs and ahhhs from the parents in the crowd and I laid there for a few moments to make sure I could breathe.
It didn’t hurt necessarily (other than my pride) but it was definitely an odd feeling to get “decleated” ,so to speak.
The kid who crushed me was a good sport and helped me up and I ran back to sideline. I didn’t get back into any kickoff coverage teams for the remainder of the year.
Probably a good decision.
