Fellas who played football in the past...

What was the hardest hit you ever took?
Mine had to have been freshman year of high school, first year of varsity. I barely played my freshman year and it was playoffs. Being the dumb arse freshman I was I would keep candy bars in my football pants and sneak a bite on occasion while being on sideline. For whatever reason coach calls me in to be on kickoff team. I am running full speed and the runner comes to my side. Some dude came from out of nowhere and lit my world up. My helmet came off, it knocked the breath out of me, the works. I am laying on the ground gathering myself and I look beside me and there lays a pack of Reese Cups.
I got hit so hard I turned into a piñata.

Hardest hit I took was the day I realized that I was a big fish in a small pond with no real future in football beyond High School.

punt return in dome, whole sideline and other deep back was yelling fair catch... i didn't.... got pummeled as soon as i caught ball... back of my head hit the (then brick hard) turn... looked up at gondola and thought a UFO was coming to get me...
that and trying to tackle future NFL DL glenn montgomery in the open field head on.....

Spring football/practice.
8th grader going to be a freshman in the fall, so the coach thought it was fine to practice with the juniors (next year's seniors).
Insanely violent junior linebacker decided to try to end me while I was the RB on a practice play.

We had a stupid drill where you had to stand straight, hands behind your back, and let someone tackle you at whatever speed he could generate. Thankfully, we didn't have the bruisers that you would have now in h.s.
We also had a "taco drill" - you'd run back and forth until the first person puked. Thankfully, we had a couple of guys who could barf on demand.

Both mine were on kick return team.
Both on onside kick, the first one in practice got hit so hard I was out cold and a bracket came off my braces.
The second was in a game I jumped on the ball (onside kick again) and a dude speared me in the ribs and cracked 3 of em.
eta: I managed to hold on to the ball both times somehow

I played Lacrosse, which is a more manly than football.
I was doing some work in goal and took a 80mph lacrosse ball to the nether region.
That is true pain.

Hardest hit I ever took actually wasn't in pads on the field. It was on the beach in a sand football game. Was playing QB and got blindsided just as a threw a pass. Hardest hit I ever gave was running down on kickoff. Busted up the wedge, and hit a guy, not sure if he has gotten up yet.

Sophomore year. I was on the second team defense playing safety. The running back/fullback on the first team O would eventually play for the Cardinals and Cowboys. I took him on straight on and got knocked on my arse. Blacked out for a good 3 seconds.
Yeah, after that hit I knew I wasn't for long playing football.

We were playing thee 49'ers in the NFC Championship, I caught one over the middle and Ronnie Lott hit me under the chin.
I still caught the touchdown and we went on to win the game.
