i see a lot of talk about capping oil profits and not a lot of talk about the quickest way to drop gas prices, lower gasoline taxes.

This would be an absolute disaster for the oil/gas industry in the US and for every single consumer in the US.

VERY soon, gas stations are going to need bigger signs to accommodate double digit per gallon prices.

Those tin foil hat folks on the PT board who think that Democrats want to destroy the economy might be on to something.
I just have trouble believing that people can actually think that a surtax could do a damn thing to blunt inflation.

In 1982, Ceau?escu directed the government to export much of the country's agricultural and industrial production in an effort to repay these debts. The shortages that followed drastically lowered living standards, leading to heavy rationing of food, water, oil, heat, electricity, medicine and other necessities. His cult of personality experienced unprecedented elevation, followed by extensive nepotism and the intense deterioration of foreign relations, even with the Soviet Union.

They're not stupid. They're doing this on purpose. They want the oil and gas sector to implode. This gets them their electric vehicles, wind, solar, and all green agendas moving in the right direction.

The only things the government can do to blunt out of control gas prices, in order:
1. End sanctions on Russia and stop sending money to Ukraine. We are just delaying the inevitable and causing oil prices to rise. If you want to send your personal money to extend the conflict go ahead, stop sending taxpayer money there.
2. Start signaling friendly attitudes to oil. Restart construction of Keystone XL. Basically repudiate all of the left's bullshite about ending domestic oil production.
Biden will do neither of these things. So prepare for it to get worse.

Of course the oil companies will just absorb that tax hit, not pass it on to consumers at the gas pump.
Idiots

If they are stupid enough to propose this, they are stupid enough to enact price controls.
And then blame the oil companies when there is a major supply shortage.

fricking brilliant. There's no way the oil companies will pass that on to consumers. Great job, Biden! You've solved the problem.

Why a 21% tax? Let’s really curb inflation, and start levying a 100% tax. That will show Exxon not to be greedy.

Oil prices were sky high prior to the Russian invasion because of Biden’s energy policies. The war just added fuel to the fire.

Sir, that will never happen. The left wants oil to crater, and isn’t shy about telling us.
