This should be the case for most drugs.
Punish the dealers and the peddlers.
The addicts and users shouldn't be punished.

I expect it to go more of the route like tobacco and liquor/beer distribution. You know damn well those industries have the deepest lobbying pocket books and will not let that kind of cheese go to a bunch of amateurs making bud in their garage.
In fact I will bet my house on that.

With Big Tobacco having issues, and all the infastructure and marketing and distribution in place, I'm blown away they're not fighting harder for it.

You think this is happening right now in the legal states?

Beyond removing marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act, the bill goes a step further to provide "restorative justice," to communities disproportionately affected by marijuana arrests and create an "inclusive industry from the ground up," Lee said in a Wednesday afternoon call with reporters.
Lee called the legislation, "a bold proposal to reverse decades of discriminatory drug enforcement and to bring federal marijuana policy in line with the wishes of the American people."
And that's why it will die a quick fast death, never to see the light of fricking day

It's a fricking joke.
We'll legalize pot if EVERYONE EVER convicted gets reparations....
frick these bullshite politicians

This is some bullshite. Dems know it won't be passed even before creating it. It's just a way to pander to their home districts/states and say, "look, we tried. It's the republicans who don't want this."

If they want legal marijuana, what are they supposed to do?

Not pander, come up with a real solution that can pass and be added to later.
Step 1: Reschedule weed so it's no longer criminal. Leave all that special interest bullshite at the door and see if you can get this one simple thing passed.
Step 2: Commute sentences of offenders.
See what else can gain traction and be passed. But it isn't all going to get in on one bill. It will be DOA and they know it.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Makes too much sense for it to actually pass.
This is going to screw over law enforcement.
How can they randomly pull over and search their vehicles if detecting the smell of marijuana is no longer probable cause? How can they seize cars, money, and valuables without charges if there isnt the appearance of a crime, to pay for salaries, cool toys, and over the top press conferences?

If and when it does become legal, intelligent millennial entrepreneurs are gonna hop on that train and make lots of money very quickly. It would be great for the economy and we all know it.
No, they won't. It will take hundreds of thousands to become a weed entrepreneur (similar to getting a liquor license). The industry will be run by corporate CEO types that have the money or investments to get started.
Posted on 1/18/18 at 8:45 am to NYNolaguy1
watching LivePD, it appears that well over 50% of the stops involve the odor of weed or the sight of weed, or weed related paraphernalia, detaining of suspects to facilitate further searches. I agree, the law enforcement lobby will continue to fight this to the death.

To do that, the bill will create a $500 million community reinvestment fund that will focus on job training for the nascent cannabis industry and will prioritize communities that have suffered a disproportionate number of marijuana arrests for recreational-sales licenses.
All for it minus the above. Total waste of money.
That money will be siphoned off by politicians and their friends. The rest will be wasted on the stupid idea that dealers want to be trained to work a 9-5.

Why don’t they start slowly and reclassify it first? Then go from there. We all know that they’re not going to come right out and legalize it altogether. Start with baby steps.
Because the Dems's finally got around to reading "The Art of the Deal". You don't start a deal from a reasonable position. You start at an unreasonable position and let the other guy talk you down to reasonable. That way it seems like a compromise and everyone is happy. It's basically Trump's MO.

Something from the Democrats I can get behind. Of course they will try to sneak in some kind of pork spending that will elimate the chances of any Republican voting for it.

Going to war with weed is a good way for republicans to shoot themselves in the balls.
I think most people are mature enough to see the argument between weed and alcohol, and weed's far less detrimental qualities.
But idiots like our resident "evil weed" evangelist insist on pushing people like Sessions to do the stupid shite that will cost republicans every election cycle.
In short, conservatives will continue to lose support until the religious nuts either shut up or GTFO.
