Because it's below 99% for certain segments of the population, there are some who are allergic, immunocompromised, for some other reason cannot receive the vaccine so healthy people need to be vaccinated to not put those people at risk, vaccines reduce severe disease and hospital stays, they are only effective when a critical mass of the population receives them, you've taken vaccines for many other conditions which are far less lethal than covid, etc.
But let's be honest, you didn't really want to hear the answer. Or you already knew it, but from the content of your posts that would be giving you too much credit.

Isn't that the same for all viruses? How are those cases handled? Oh yeah, they take responsibility and don't venture out in places they could be compromised. For the record, this number is very low.

No. That's not how this works. The real soy thing is to refuse service and business with people who don't want to get the vaccine. I fly to New York in three weeks for work, we'll see what happens :)
