Similar situation happened about a year or two ago on the state level with Department of wildlife and fisheries where the secretary got a side-by-side and some other things for being involved in an under the table business deal.
When I worked for a local government department in college, I remember the department I was in had a budget and when it would get close to the fiscal year, if the department didn't use up all of their money in the budget, they would start spending it on... whatever. Things in the office that wasn't really needed.. New work jackets, whatever.. because if they didn't do that there would be less money in the budget the following year. So I bet that's what happens in these situations. There is so much left in the budget, they need to spend it before the end of the fiscal year... And if there is.. What? A good $20k left then they figure they can buy shite like a side-by-side.
So in their mind, they probably don't see it as "stealing" because after all, that money was approved to be given to their department and they have to spend it all so they can get the same amount next year/

I wonder if this is similar to the Maine weed farm issues that were detailed in that recent podcast. Chinese nationals running illegal farms. I looked up a couple of the Glenmora nurseries and sure enough the names were generated by throwing spoons down the stairs. Man Biden et al literally almost gave this country away.

So what exactly happened here? They were selling immigration documents or something?

Fake police reports in order to sell U-Visas.
After 3 years, U-Visa holder can apply to become a US citizen.

How a guy that looks like that somehow ingratiates himself to a police chief and subsequently broached the subject of teaming for a criminal enterprise, just blows me away.
How does that conversation even get started. Wow.

One finding in an OIG audit from 2022 identified fraud risks associated with the U-Visa program because the US Citizenship and Immigration Services office, who manages the program, didn't take steps to address and implement recommendations from previously internal and external program reviews. The program had no performance goals and didnt have accurate data on how many U-visas were even granted.
I wonder if this new task force started following up with some of these petitions looking for more information and backstory on the crimes and got some suspicious and unconvincing stories from the visa applicants.

There’s a big difference in buying new staplers and jackets versus taking money to falsify documents to allow illegal immigrants to obtain a visa

"Hey, want to make a lot of cash?" is probably an effective conversation starter.
Chad Doyle gave my mom (RIP) a speeding ticket. What an a-hole

My bet is that Chad Doyle or one of the other LEO's approached Lala to get this going.

Yeah but how do you pivot to “let’s falsify these official documents….”
