“Wound my heart with a monotonous languor.” - BBC radio, June 5, 1944, code telling the French Resistance that the European invasion (D-Day) would begin within hours. It’s from a poem by 19th century French poet Paul Verlaine and the full line is “The long sobs of autumn's violins wound my heart with a monotonous languor.“ The shortened line was in a scene from the movie, The Longest Day.
