St. Jude would be my #1 choice. Those folks are the best. Another great choice that wasn't mentioned is Teen Challenge. There are many locations nationwide but you could search out your local centers and help them. They help anyone, not just teens, with long term substance abuse problems. They are highly successful, have low overhead, and are sponsored by a local church as they are Christian based. I live in Baton Rouge and my step-daughter received wonderful care and support in the 14 months she was there. That facility is in Picayune, MS. There are many others and are segregated so each location is either all men or all women. Wonderful organization!

I run for St. Jude as a St. Jude Hero and so does my daughter. We've raised a good bit of money for St. Jude and I can say it's a completely, totally, beyond believable place.

St. Jude. My grandson is a patient there. He is doing great. The only thing the family has to focus on is their child. Wonderful support. Too many children from Louisiana are there. We were just there for a check up Monday. Met yet another family from Louisiana. Thank God we have St. Judes.

I recently heard the number of patients that are indeed from Louisiana but for the life of me can't remember it but it was a STAGGERING number. Glad your grandson is doing well .. we will be there in December for bingo at either Delta Place or Ronald McDonald House and to run in the marathon weekend.

St.Jude is one of the best.
Red Cross is the absolute worst.

There’s an awesome charity local to Baton Rouge and southeast Louisiana called Dose for the Coast that takes cancer patients and people with terminal illness out on fishing trips for free. The creator of the group is a gal that works for ldwf in fisheries and lives in Baton Rouge! Great cause!

It is a high percentage. I just can’t remember either.
Thanks for your support. My daughter (grandson mom) and friends will be running as well. It means a lot to the patients to see so many people running.

Lots of worthy causes out there... One of my favorites is operation second chance.

Donate to something where you can see your money being out to use. It might be a dick move, but I don't like donating to any big charities. In the past I have donated to red cross as well as one of the more common cancer organizations through work (it has completely slipped my mind. What's the name of the one that a lot of companies support where you can donate a percentage of your salary?)..
Anyway, when it comes to non profit organizations, I think the bigger they are the more likely they become bigger than the actual cause they are raising money for so I just donate to local things, depending on what it is, when asked.

Evening all, I recently hit a small windfall and instead of tithing like I normally would, I am thinking about donating the money elsewhere. Many reasons why.
Anyway, what are your favorite charities to donate to? I was thinking about st. Jude.
Hoping for some serious responses. In before subtle brag.
I ask that you consider donating to your local B.A.C.A. Chapter. You ca go to www.bacaworld.org and find your local chapter to get in touch with them. If you don’t know who we are, this video will explain.

Thanks.

We have given to St. Jude in the past, will likely again. Son's lacrosse team went and spent a day there about a year ago on a road trip.
I have sent cigars to Operation From the Heart which sends cigars to members of our armed forces who are deployed in the Middle East.
We give to Second Harvest Food Bank when we check out, at Rouse's. They used to have displays where you would tear off the coupon, but they got rid of them. At "our" Rouse's on Clearview Parkway in Metairie, they have bar codes attached to the register. Just tell the checker you want to make a S.H. donation and they'll scan it for you. We do this at least once every six weeks or so, but I'd like to increase it.
